Hey guys, don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem for the steam edition of LA Noire. When I start the game, the rockstar logo comes up, then the Team Bondi logo, the disclaimer. What I'm assuming is supposed to be the main menu is just a black screen. I can hear music playing, and the loading symbol with the two arrows in the bottom right is still rotating, but nothing happens. Any Ideas?

I just updated my graphics driver, and then I verified the game cache through steam, and when I did that, the game started updating or installing again. So after it was finished, i hit verify game cache again... and now it's updating or installing again on my game list. Wtf steam.

Not trying to be a prick but you did uninstall your old driver, restart, then install Catalyst 11.10? I've heard if uninstalled incorrectly that it can cause issues.

I, too, am having the exact same problem as the original poster. It goes to the main screen and hangs at "Synchronization." My specs are far worse than the poster's, but this seems like an issue with DRM or synching (doesn't this game have the rockstar club thing on it too?) than hardware, as I'm not even getting a chance to load the game.

lol not related to this LA Noire issue but i've had a big WTF with steam the other day as well. I was installing my disc version of MW3 but instead of installing the game from the disc it started downloading the freaking 14 Gigs after giving me an error about busy steam servers.

Had to delete the game from my steam list and reinstall.

I went to Radeon's website, downloaded their auto detect and install program. The manager updated the driver. I restarted my computer, and that was all I did. I got a reply from rockstar support, and the tech over there said it might have something to do with my antivirus quarantining the file "ypatcher" under C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Social Club. So I went ahead and disabled everything, and reinstalled the game on steam, same problem.

Been trying to figure this out, and this is the best I can come up with for now: http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/20646691-main-menu-missing-in-the-steam-version-of-l-a-noire-for-pc. There's not much other stuff out there, but it seems like people (if only a few) are having troubles with this too. I still can't get it to go, but hopefully Steam/Rockstar gets a fix going. If someone figures something out, please share. It's a bit frustrating to drop $50 on a game I can't even play.

Just tried what that article suggested. Still having the same problem. I submitted a ticket yesterday, got one reply that didn't help. Hopefully they release a patch or something soon. Had two days off from work in a row, was looking forward to playing this.

So I just fixed the problem by trying random things. I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common and right clicked on the LANoire file (NOT LANoireLauncher). I went to properties > compatibility, then changed the compatibility to run with windows 7, then checked the boxes "Run in 256 color" and "640x480 resolution" I don't know which of those solved the problem, but it I just started the game up fine by starting it from the application in the steam folder instead of steam itself with those items checked. The game looks fine too, isn't running in 640x480 or 256 colors. Hope that helps.

Wow, you're brilliant. I changed it to my OS and it worked like a peach. Crashed a couple times in my playing, but it's working. I have no idea how you figured it out, but thanks!

It was the Windows 7 compatibility thing that fixed the game for me, which is a retail copy. Rockstar you never learn...

You don't have any reason to set compatibility to your current OS because you're running the game on it, compatibility mode is in case the game doesn't run on your current OS, which is 7, that's how it always was and that's how it'll always be.

I had a problem with Norton taking out the ypatcher AND main .exe of the game, after downloading it from Steam. I had to add exception to both, then re-verify my game in order to get it to work.

EDIT: Oh, and I also clicked the "Administrator" box on both the main .exe AND the Launcher for good measure, just in case.

I wonder how long until someone can find a fix for the 30fps framerate lock. It's the only thing stopping me from continuing. And it's a really good game.. I just can't stand the 30fps lock.. it's so choppy. I have no clue why Rockstar would go and do such a dumb thing like that and release the PC version.. What is the f'in point.

Why would these posts make you fear for GTA V? first these post are not uncommen for any pc-release and most are only a problem for the person who has postet it.

Yes there is some problems with some Antivirus programs flagging files from the game as a security risk, but thats not Rockstars problem.

All i have spoken to who have bought LA NOire have had zero problems and it is performing above anything on Xbox and Ps3 also having the extra DLC cases in the main game makes it for a much better experience, in fact one case is so clearly meant to be released with the main game but for some reason Rockstar has taken it out and decided to make it a DLC.

Another thing is the time before GTA V comes out, the release date is most likly 6-12months from now and most people will be on a whole new computer then and who knows what issues that will have, besides would PC people much rather want the game not to be released for PC?

turns out having .net 4.0 installed in windows 7 causes performance issues, kind of annoying if you need it for other programs...

Zero problems? Son, have a search on the boards. People are all over this game and with good reason apparently.

All I can say is, I haven't had a single problem with the game so far, and I'm quite a few hours into it. It installed fine, patched fine, and runs fine. It looks pretty damn good too, really. I'd have no fear of purchasing GTAV on the PC at this point, personally.

Hmm, so the 10-20-30 who have problems is a lot? compared to the salesfigures.

I dont have steam version of l.a noire but i have a same problem. at first I'd played the game with slow frame rate in os/xp. after that i add "-str" in command option and my frame speed became good. but after restarting my pc blank menu appear.
