I have a toshibia Sattlie pro, and my battery wont charge. but it still has a charge.

when i plug in my power cord it doesnt recharge and the led light doesnt come on. I have taken the battery out of my laptop and tried turning on my laptop without the battery in (power cord in) and it didnt even turn on, nor did the led light come on.

so since the battery still works, i think its a power cord problem or a problem with the power cord port. I have an other power cord, but im on vacation, are there anyways to trouble shoot or test to see excatly what the problem is?

My brother had the same problem with a Toshiba Satellite. You need to go their website, download the latest BIOS for you model and flash it. The BIOS specifically mentions that it fixes the above problem, it's a known issue with Toshiba.

How old is the battery? If it's old (two or three years) it might need to be replaced. Batteries will lose their ability to hold energy over time, however in your case you need it even when plugged in which means to me it's not holding a charge but it can still route energy through it as your lappy requires it to be installed in order to recieve electricity which is common in many laptops. Sounds like it just needs replacement.

ok, im going to try and download the bios from thier site.

but just a little back ground info on the laptop, i found it at a E-waste site, popped in a new hard drive and had a friend install a OS system xp. so im not sure of the battery age or anything. but dont laptops work with just the cord plugged in normally? but ive been using this laptop for a good 6 months with no problems.

Even if the battery wasn't in that good of condition, it would still charge. It would also discharge really fast.

If the BIOS flash doesn't fix it, the best way to tell is to test with the other cord. If it charges, you have a bad power cord. If it doesn't, bad power port.

Like I said, some work with the battery not in, some don't. The ones that require the battery in are routing the electrical connections through the battery and the laptop takes the electricity off the battery directly which I'm sure is easier to make, but also runs the battery down quicker probably which means we have to buy more batteries. But like I said it means the laptop can probably be produced cheaper by doing so.

BIOS flashing without stable power isn't recommended at all. If the power dies while flashing you'll lose the system due to corrupted BIOS. If there is no way to give it power I recommend taking it to a shop.

Toshiba's site should have your model, it took a while for me to find my brother's model too, it's just I looked at the wrong number on the label.

could be a static electricity block preventing the battery from charging. take the battery out, unplug the power cord from the laptop, then hold down the on buttton for 30 secs. plug the wall power back in and see how u go. if this fails then i dunno :(

Do these steps: First make sure that your BIOS is up to date, if it's not then update it from your company website. If that doesn't work then don't let hope down, this is a guarantee work unless your battery is dead(which it is not if it has a charge). Go to device manager. Do that by doing this: Right click on my computer > then click Device manager. Now expand the tab that says "Batteries" Now uninstall the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery". Don't worry this will not harm anything, now click Actions at the top and click "Scan for hardware changes" this will reinstall what you uninstalled. Then BAM! you have a charging battery.

true but laptops should work without any battery so as long as your charger is fine the is no risk as long as you don't knock the plug out.
