So, my old Dell XPS gen 2 has finally kicked the bucket. I'm pretty sure it is the video card that is shot because I get these horizontal scan line type things across my screen minutes after the thing starts up. It is a 4+ year old computer and the CD drive died on it a few months ago as well so I was planning on buying a new one. Now instead of taking my time it is a must since I need a computer up at university.

Anyways, I have been looking for one and would like to stick with Dell since I can get a 7% discount on it through one of my parents. I would like to get another gaming system like the old one, but conisdering I just bought a car and am still paying for school I can't shell out 2 grand for an Alienware or a M1730. I have been looking and am thinking about either getting one of the new Studio laptops or a lower end XPS. I'm not as hardcore a PC gamer as I used to be so I don't need a crazy video card but I was wondering which of the two has the better one.

The Studio 15 has a 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 while the Studio 17 has a 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. Not a big difference between the two I guess, but based on the numbers I would guess the the Studio 17 is slightly better.

The XPS 1330 has an Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 while the XPS 1530 has a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. I would assume the 1530 is better, but by how much?

Really, a list from strongest to weakest would be great. Also, which computer you think overall is best would really be appreciated. I configured each one to have a Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) with a 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz. If you have read through all of this and input some thoughts I really appreciate it. I know its alot to read.

Thanks!

the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT is the best choice for those cards.

None of them are amazing , but this should be able to play a nice chunk of games.

In relation to the Radeon cards how much better would you say the NVIDIA is? I know they aren't spectacular, but they are mostly just for casual gaming and playing my favorite old PC games again.

ive got a 9600m gt in my laptop and it runs games very well. nothing at top graphics but I can say that it runs crysis warhead and crysis wars at well over 30 fps all low. it still is a demanding game. bf2 and FEAR all high around 30 fps. great card for mid range, definately not high - end but i can give good props for the 9600m gt. you wouldn't be disappointed.

I'm about to buy a laptop with the 9600m gt, what better cards are out there for laptops that can run games on high settings?
