I am buying a laptop and my budget is $700. These are the two laptops that I have shortlisted:

Acer AS5742G-6600

CPU: Core i5-480m(2.66Ghz, 2.9Ghz turbo, 3MB cache)

GPU: GT 540M, 1 GB dedicated DDR3 VRAM

RAM: 4 GB DDR3

Acer AS5552G-7641

CPU: AMD Phenom II Quad Core N970(2.2Ghz, no turbo :( , 2MB cache)

GPU: ATI Raedon 6650M, 1GB dedicated DDR3 VRAM

RAM: 4 GB DDR3

I was wondering which laptop is better.

AMD Phenom II X4 sounds good as it is a quad core. But it lacks turbo and Level 3 cache. I duuno which proceesor will be better i5-480m or Phenom II X4 N970?

Also GT 540 is pretty much close to 6650M. Some game benchmarks of GT 540M are better, and in some 6650M is better. So I was wondering which is better and how much difference is between them.

Could anyone tell me which laptop is better and how much difference does it make?

They are VERY similar systems and will yield similar performance. Both cards are plenty fast for mid level moderm gaming and the CPUs are current and will work well too. I would lean the Nvidia/Intel route but really either would do ya fine.

Well they too are DAMN close. Same Wattage Intel faster clock AMD faster Bus 2 core for Intel 4 core for AMD But......there really is NOT that big a difference between 2 and 4 cores in most games ESPECIALLY on a laptop. (In other apps, may be more of a dif). Benchmark wise they are both damn neck and neck too. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-480M-Notebook-Processor.41730.0.html http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-N970-Notebook-Processor.42725.0.html I guess I would just google those exact models and see if one has better reviews?
