I turned on my laptop today and got one long beep and two short beeps from the bios. The screen was completely blank and stayed black. Yet it seemed to start up just fine besides not being able to see anything. After trying again and again and searching google and finally came to the conclusion that my laptop just crapped out (had it for 10 years).

Hours later I decided to turn it on once more and it works perfectly.:?

It then displayed:
Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency....

After all that, it now works fine.
But now I am afraid of turning my laptop off. Does anyone know what happened here?

You've had a laptop for 10 years, I'd say the fact it has any functionality at all is a miracle.

my dad's old laptop from 95 or something still works lol and tc if you shut it off it will probably work again, but you'd be best to just leave it on.

It is possible that your harddrive may have developed serious problems. Change it and see whether it works.
