I'm looking to do one final upgrade to my PC and I'm wondering if you can assist me in picking out a GPU.

First, I'm looking for an AGP GPU.

Second, I'm a bit partial to the ATI boards as I've had better luck with them as they seem to have better DirectX support.

What I'm curious about is how different ATI card perform in relation to others.

For example, from what I can tell, the X1300 card isn't all that much better than the X800 even though it's part of the newer generation.

Basically performance wise, what's going to be better X800, X1300, X1650, or X1950 all of which I can get with an AGP interface.  I don't think I'd go with the X1300 at all but I would like to know performance-wise how the X800, X1650, and X1950 all relate to each other.

Thanks

On other question, how does the X1950 compare with the GeForce 7800?

I really would recommend just saving for a new system....I made the mistake of trying to revive my agp system last summer =P....I just bought a new system this weekend ;)

I've been running an x800GTO, which was pretty decent. It doesn't support SM3.0, but I ran most games on medium-high (usually w/o most AA etc) at 1680x1050 if that helps at all.

IMHO, the x1950 is the only choice in AGP atm. I plan on getting one myself soon, my 6600GT just doesn't cut it anymore and I simply do not have the cash to build a new system but can scratch up the three bills for a x1950. How good a choice this is will largely depend on how fast dual and quad cores become a requirement for PC gaming, but seeing as the vast majority of systems are still single core I think it will be quite some time.

Thanks for the input. I actually did price out a new PC but I'm just not ready yet to go that route. I kinda want to wait for Vista to 'mature' abit before I throw down for a new rig. However, a new card will keep my machine viable for a while more. The Tom's hardware link was exactly what I was looking for thanks.
