humm... try your monitor on another PC or even a laptop and see if it works.... if it doesn't then the problem is with you monitor... if it works, then your graphics card could be fried..

Try running windows in safe mode, If you get the start up screen, then it means it's a driver issue.

To run safe mode, you must press f8 right when you boot your computer repeatedly.

Likely Windows is trying to run the graphics at a higher refresh rate than your monitor supports. Try turning Windows down to 60 and see if that keeps the monitor from going to sleep.

Also check that your power supply is adequete, because since it doesn't go past the start up screen it could be a cause of that. Since your monitor needs to warm up (mine does, I think). Yeah not sure if that's true but just keep it in mind.

that brings up the boot menu( harddrive, CD drive, etc...)

oh and i put my graphics card in my family computer and its fine so i have no idea what is wrong

i would rather not have to reinstall xp on my computer or any thing like that, that would erase all my data

Well, if that is what it does, then find out how your motherboard loads up safe mode. That will surely tell you if it is a driver issue (and in my instance, yes, it was a driver issue because safe mode loaded up perfectly).
