Don't buy a 360, buy a 360 wired controller :)

I just played it with my wired controller and it worked just fine. I'm currently on Windows 7 and actually just had another game update this morning. When I first started playing the game (as Coach at the time) I could barely move, so I hit A, which stood him up and I was able to move around fine. With the control enabled, I could not use the keyboard to move, yet I could use the mouse to look around.

That said, I'm curious as to why you want to play any fps game on the PC with a controller. I use my wired 360 controller for everything but fps games. But that's not your problem.

Mouse aiming gives you far more fine movement adjustment than a controller. With a mouse, the amount of movement tends to determine the amount of aiming - little movements tend to meke your character's view change a little, while big movements tend to make your character's view change a lot. Just like moving the mouse around the desktop.

While playing L4D2 with my wired control, it was like I had to fight to get it to aim where I had intended, but if I move the mouse, it tends to aim exactly where I intend, with less adjustment. At least in my experience, the controller is either overly sensitive with big movements and not sensitive enough with small movements.

As soon as I get my pc I will try with the mouse ,I would assume that the controller was just as you were playing on a console

ps DAHM god is on my side i guess today i turned the game on and the controller was working perfectly , so problem solved , and now we can argue is mouse shooting better than controller shooting :D :D :D for me with the controller i easier to shoot horizontaly but verticaly its a lot harder , yet i prefer to play with it cuz i can sit more relaxed and with my feet on the desk :) ok now you can delete the topic :D

Everybody's opinions about the merits of 360 controllers versus mouse/kb aside (which don't answer the ops question), the 360 wireless controller does indeed work fine on L4D2.

Yes....it does work. I just tried it and it is fantastic. It made my brothers night. I traded in the 360 version of the game and got the pc version last week. He refused to play on the pc because of the mouse and keyboard. Now he is very happy. Note; you do have to adjust the x/y sensitivity because it it set to zero when you turn on the gamepad option in the menu.

it should just work when you turn the controller on and in the settings enable gamepad. if you don't enable the controller in the settings it will not work.

wired and wireless both work exactly the same, plus wires and conrollers are a bad combo. just waiting to get tangled.

why would you ever want to use a gamepad for an fps on a pc? this makes no sense, but it should work.

You should just have to type 'exec 360controller.cfg' in the dev console. Thats all I do for setting up controllers when I need to play splitscreen with friends, except I've got a custom .cfg for my ps3 controllers.
