What controversey? That its being released for Xbox?biggest_loser
Oh lol at that mate :P
And this was up on GiantBomb yesterday, no one mentioned controversy about it there. Its some smart advertising, 4 fingers when the game is called Left 4 Dead, quite clever i thought.
I was gonna buy it off of steam, but I want that box now.
Edit: Although, I guess it is a little gorey for box art.
So like? If it bothers you that much that is on 360 too, don't buy it, you don't have to make a scene because it is multi plat
I personally don't like the idea of the game, it should stay as a mod not made a full game, but meh, I will probably buy it, if it has enough players, because it's made by valve and I have almost all their games, except HL1, blue shift and other HL1 variations.
It is explicit, but let's face it, where could it be banned, except Australia and maybe Germany?
Video games aren't allowed to have such graphic content on the box in the eyes of the media. It's not just a crappy cover with some blood on it, and it's a lot more graphic than the Dead Space box art:
I remember that EA had to tone down the American McGee's Alice cover because of complaints, and that one's light years beyond Left 4 Dead's.
This looks way better imo, but hey, Valve knows best.
What I really want is The Crossing, because it looks like it's going to be awesome, not some mod, with less bugs, better graphics and some new features, I can't wait to get it :D.

Baranga
Bit unrealistic. Most places in space the hand would be frozen stiff at absolute zero with any moisture left on it forming ice around it.
I don't like it, I think the left 4 dead one is really clever even if it has little appeal outside of fans of grusomeness.

that the only unrealistic bit you want to point out?

Is there another?
And actually, the liquids would boil and the hand would increase in volume.

the hand could potentially explode of it's own volition (kinda, i suppose thats the wrong word seeing as the hand wouldn't choose to explode) seen as there is no external pressure on the hand and people kind of rely on that. although it could just swell like you said. whatever way you look at it, the hand wouldn't look like that.
Not complaining though, it's decent, although i don't think it's quite suitable. i also didn't know that EA got their logo onto spaceships. :P

And also I don't think anyone would be outside of a ship taking pictures of floated severed hands... So that's not really realistic either.
But I like the cover for left 4 dead. reminds me of a cover for a Romero film.
Looks nice... but I actually prefer some of the other "concept" box-art to be honest.
But I guess it doesn't matter because this is one that I'll be buying off of Steam, unless there's some way to buy it from retail and then register it on Steam so that you can practically throw the disc away...

Lol yeah like the fact that you're fighting mutated humans in space that can heave their heads cut off and still live. I think a little artistic licence can be overlooked.
As for the box art (for both games) I think they are fine. Personally I don't really care one way or the other because it's the actual game that matters. How much time (total) will you spend looking at the cover of a game box? A few minutes? Compared to the hours of gameplay that's nothing.
But I guess it doesn't matter because this is one that I'll be buying off of Steam, unless there's some way to buy it from retail and then register it on Steam so that you can practically throw the disc away...

You can do that, thats how you install the game...you buy, register on steam and can practically throw the disc away

Oh snap really?! Then I'll buy it from retail then so I don't have to mess with the DL times on Steam. ;)
If it`s anything like the Orange Box then yes, that`s what you can do. Seeing as its made by Valve as well I would assume it`s the same idea.Looks nice... but I actually prefer some of the other "concept" box-art to be honest.

You take all the fun out of science fiction
Well, for the sake of being combative and argumentative, in order for something to truly be considered science fiction, everything mus be able to be plausibly explained through science. that's why it's science fiction.:D
Ah yes very clever indeed... Just in case you didn't get the fact that "4" is a part of the title from it being right there at the top of the box, you have a matching number of fingers just beneath it to guide you through the process. The Dead Space cover is better if you ask me, at least the amputated hand is in some sort of context from the background... the Left 4 Dead cover is just like "Hi guys, here's a hand with 4 fingers to match the title and for you to stare at. Not sure where it came from or why it's here, we just thought it was appropriate."

Huh? Was teleportation plausibly explained in Star Trek? Was traveling faster than the speed of light plausibly explained in the countless sci fi stories? Were the sounds of explosions in space ever plausibly explained in Star Wars? I could go on and on and on. But why bother.
Star Trek and Star Wars aren't really true science fiction, they're space fantasy/space opera. True Science fiction is stuff like Isaac Asimov's writings.
again, I'm just being facetious here. I don't want this to get blown out of proportion, and I have a feeling that there's a threat of that happening.
