I watch Blu-Rays on my 32" 720p tv and I definitely notice a difference in video and sound quality (surround sound). I put a DVD on and there's definitely a difference in quality. But the difference isn't something everyone would appreciate or make a big fuss over. I'm just a huge movie buff with a deep appreciation of movies so I find Blu-rays amazing

At 720p, you obviously are not getting all Blu-Ray offers, but 720p is definitely an improvement over 480p. Of course you need to sitting close enough to a set TV to be able to see the resolution, but the your eye will be able to see 720p farther than it can see 1080p for a set TV size. Here's the chart for reference: http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html I wish we could make the chart a sticky note!

Before I got an HDMI cable for my PS3, I watched a couple blu-rays through component on my 60" Sony SXRD (so 720p). I was underwhelmed by the picture quality. After I got my HDMI, however, I went back and watched them again, and I was amazed at the difference in clarity. Oh, and once I upgraded my surround sound receiver so I could take advantage of the Blu-ray HD sound, I was actually even more impressed at that difference!

Actually, the biggest advantage to "HD" is progressive scanning, rather than just sheer resolution. I would rather watch something in 720p than in 1080i (seriously, interlacing a huge resolution like that looks like garbage).

At any rate, the increased resolution from 480p to 720p is noticeable and still worth watching. 1080p looks impressive on larger screens, but I wouldn't say you were "missing" the point of Blu-Ray watching just because you're watching in 720p. I would say that you're missing a lot more from not using surround sound than you are from using a lower than 1080p resolution.

1080p looks just as impressive on smaller screens.

people worry about resolution too much. there are many factor that give nice PQ, and resolution is only one of those factors.
