Both at 720p, I'm trying to decide which to buy. Which one is better for gaming in general? I'm a huge guitar hero fanatic and I play on the higher difficulty setting so timing has to be perfect or close to it. Which one would be better; less lag? And are the plasmas really that bad for burn-in? Please help.

Also if you know of another TV within the same price range let me know too. Thanks in advance.

Between the two, go with the LCD. I had a plasma and aside from a shorter overall life, the burn-in can be an issue. You play GH for more than 3 hours and then switch to a program, you'll get a brief, but scary, period of time where the moving neck where the notes come across is burned in. Never had any permanent burn in, but it scared me.

Also, LG is basically the same as Insignia (they share parts) and this TV:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8463076&type=product&id=1184767921005

is cheaper, the same size, AND 1080p. It's got a low contrast ratio but still looks absolutely GORGEOUS. I think, for the sake of 1080p, you should go for this one. Also, this isn't just a TV I picked out on the web site, I purchased this TV and have owned it for about 3 months now. Since I purchased it, 3 of my other gaming friends have bought it, too. We all love it.

Thanks for your reply. If its not too much to ask, have you played any rhythm games on it? Its a big issue for me for the lag time. Thanks in advance.

Lag is very important, my buddy got an LCD and the lag sucked! I can assure you that I've played:

-Guitar Hero I (PS2 in 480p component)
-Guitar Hero II & III (360 in 1080p component)
-Rock Band (360 in 1080p Component and PS3 in 1080p HDMI)
-Boom Boom Rocket (360 in 1080p Component)

With no calibration needed. I saw no lag. I play everything at expert difficulty and play drums at Hard difficulty. No problems. Sound and notes seemed fine. In the RARE event your setup and mine (as well as my 3 friends) have a difference, there are lag calibration programs on all but GH I on PS2, but I've never had to use them.

Mind you, I'm referring to the Insignia 42" 1080p TV I suggested. I assume there wouldn't be any problem with the LG either, as they use similar (if not the same) parts, but I can't be sure as I've not played games on the other two TVs. I had a 42" Samsung plasma beforehand (that died in 2 years, mind you, but my old roommate watched TV like, no joke, 18 hours a day, so it was never off and I wouldn't call Samsung poor quality by any means) and the plasmas as a whole I don't think have lag issues, but of course in me saying this someone's going to mention that they are just as prone as LCDs. I don't know, I know my TV worked great.

Thanks so much for your help spydersvenom7! I never thought to look at the Insignia cause I didn't know the brand, reading what you have to say and online reviews rave about the TV. I'll definately be picking this one up. Thanks a lot, and that's amazing that there's no lag! My dream tv :P . Do you have xbox live?

I just recently had to make the same choice you are facing ( except with the 1080p Samsung lcd and 1080p Panasonic plasma models ). I went with plasma. I was concerned about game lag and poor blacks in movies. I really liked the Samsung, but the plasma just had a better overall picture. I am reasonably sure that burn in wont be a problem, but i intend to take precautions just the same. Just turn down the contrast and brightness and dont play the same game for several hours every day ( i dont anyway ). I think once the crucial 100 hour break-in period is over, i will have to worry much less about burn in. I did have a 720p plasma for two years....never had a problem with that either.

I was at bestbuy today for an hour deciding between the exact same models. We could have been the same person. Here is what I ended up choosing from bestbuy

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102179

I chose the plasma for several reasons. The clarity and contrast ratio on a plasma is close to that of the 120hz LCDs that look so phenomenal. Also my dad has the same tv and I played standard def 480p downloaded content and it looked awesome. For those who still speak about burn in are the ones who bought a plasma when it first came out. Burn in is obselete now. you couldnt burn an object in a samsung tv if you tried for 48 hours. For those who are scared. Turn of your tv when your not watching it. That goes for LCDs as well. I have an hd-dvd player and a ps3 and standard def digital cable along with a digital hd antenna that gets fox abc cbs and cw all in hd beautifully. I had to order the tv and will pick it up on sunday. I have an awesome stand and everything waiting for my baby. aim me at pushdapusha or email me at mgissentanna@gmail.com I will post pics here or email it to you with some setup photos. The LG was my second choice and always will be. I know I wont be disappointed.

a previous poster recommended the Insignia 42" LCD. I went to best buy today and picked it up; I don't think I could be happier, the HD movies look amazing, there is NO lag whatsoever, it has a nice glossy finish to it ;) it is bright even during the day when te room is really bright, doesn't affect the tv.

same with me. if the LG was in fact 1080p I would've went with it, but hey it was 720p, so I had to get the 1080p lol. I do not have pictures of my setup right now, my roomate set my apartment on fire...I still don't understand how it happened, but I will be staying at my parents until I can move back in. They said 2-3 weeks so if you can wait till then for the pictures...if not, I'll try my best to convince you lol. As I said the previous poster convinced me to buy it, as well as 3 of his friends! And I really could not be more satisfied with the TV. If you play any rhythm games, or fast past shooters, you'll want the LCD. If you get the plasma, you're giving yourself a lot of lag issues and potential burn in. I didn't really mind for the burn in, as people say it is not as bad as it use to be, but its still there so idk. I didn't want that chance, and I certainly did not want lag as I play Rock Band and Guitar Hero on expert for everything lol. I CANNOT have any lag whatsoever. So the Insignia looks beautiful, it has raving reviews, I read at least 20 out of the 130+ reviews on best buy and everyone said they were happy with it, so I bought it, and damn lol. But its all up to you, it depends on what you'll be using the TV for. And how much you'll be using it :P

Tell me what you get.
