Hi.... I'm a console gamer (Braces for a hail of rotten food). My hands are wrapped around a controller most of the time, but now, I'm aching for a mouse.

Well, I'm making the Jump to PC gaming, but not desktops yet, I want to get started off with a nice laptop. An Xps,

I've been checking out the XPS M1530, a decent looking machine. The stats: Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache), high resolution, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800), 3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms), Speed: 160GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor,256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT,Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card. Runs windows Vista.

These are the stats i can configure this machine with, and these are pretty affordable coming in at about$1600 for me.

I know I'm not gonna be getting the best gaming experience, but i think itshould be ok. I recently saw a guy running Crysis with med-high graphics on a Mac with similar stats (notebook, with some kinda special program) so i hope this machine can do that. I'm not looking for a super high framerate.. just a playable one. a Decent one. 20-30

What do you think about the configurations? Do you think Dell will have a better graphicscardwithin 5 months or so? I could spring for it if they did. Any helpand advice would be appreciated.

Anything better i could get for a similar price?

You could get an amazing desktop for $1600 that will more then double the performance of that laptop. I would not suggest getting a laptop for gaming.

Really, you can get a Desktop PC for HALF the price of that laptop that'll utterly destroy it,more.

But if that doesn't convince you,you can get something similar from AVADirect for cheaper.

If thats what you want it should work fine on medium settings. Don't go by me though, I am not familiar with laptop graphics cards.

Seriously though, like other people suggested you can blow that thing away with a desktop around the same price.

If you feel really confident you can build your own system.Which is the best bang for the buck.Although I do not suggest unless you have prior experience, or someone to help you out.

You didn't say that was a requirement, did you?

Most games will run med maybe high on less demanding games. I wouldn't count on getting med-high on Crysis, more like low-med.

It's just that i was bombarded by everyone telling me to get a desktop, lol. It's tempting I must say. But I have to be mobile....

You would be lucky to be running games at much more than low settings in a year or so. I made the mistake at uni of buying a gaming laptop. It spent most of its time sat on my desk, and 2 years later I really regret buying it. For the same price I could have bought a cheap laptop and a high end desktop. I have now built myself a desktop which is fantastic, and my laptop is simply used in lectures. Look at getting a cheap, 300-400 dollar laptop and spending the rest of your money on a desktop. Seriously, it is the best way to go.

If you are determined to go for a laptop, that isnt a bad deal. However, like I said, in a year or 2 you will be struggling to play games on it.

Ok here's the deal, the dorm rooms are INSANLEY spread apart, and I wanna be able to take the lappy, and hang out with friends where ever AND play some decent games.

Laptop = my gaming device

I understand a desktop would be great, but i need to be mobile. My classes also require a notebook... so I'll be carrying it everywhere..

for a laptop its decent and probably the best you will get. So I say go ahead and buy it, but also check out the site that guy posted and see if there any better deals, if not go with the laptop.

For the record though, I would just get a desktop but its your call.
