I was all set and ready to purchase the Samsung LN40a550 before I ran across the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U for nearly the same price.

I don't know which to get now. The Panny doesn't have too many reviews and I don't know if a plasma is the right choice for me (I play a lot of video games).

I know the plasma burn-in has been virtually solved, but it still worries me.

Which tv do you guys think I should get?

lcd wins, plasma is on the way out, trust me why aren't there any plasma monitors why are they all TFT LCD's??? because its not good, lcd is more reliable, does not succumb to image burn in like plasma, and now you can buy lcd's that are just as big. The only reason to buy a plasma is the contrast ratio's are higher, but unless your obsessed how "sharp" the colours look, (the difference between 10,000-1 and 4000-1 is hard to notice) its worth the extra bucks for the lcd :)

Get the TH42PZ85U insstead of the TH42PZ80U. The better contrast ratio is worth the $100 bucks or so IMO.

Also go with the Plasma just for the fact it handles motion resolution better, burn in is hardly a factor now adays as new Plasmas have anti-burn in technology.

It also depends on where are you going to play, if it is a bright room with lot's of daylight coming in it would be better the LCD but if you can make the room dark, then the plasma is a better choice, in resolution and specs both are quite similar but has I have read a lot of people tend to choose the Plasma's and Panasonic is a good brand that make's some of the better plasma TV on the market, so going with the Panasonic one is always a safe bet and a very good option.

I have the 46PZ82B and I can tell you now you will not regret it, I can game on this sucker for hours and have no problem. I also have a new 32" samsung LCD in my bedroom and I can assure you I can not get the colour anywhere near that of the plasma and when watching SD broadcasts you will notice digital artifacts on the LCD that you will not get on the plasma.

I just went to Best Buy today and I noticed that The Panny plasma was A LOT dimmer than the Sammy LCD. I know the bright lights in the store contribute to this, and the fact that they push the brightness up on the LCD's in store, but it was really noticable and it just didn't have the same "pop" effect that the Sammy did. Is it really that drastic of a difference when the Plasma is in your room? Because I really like the bright vivid picture of the LCD compared to the dimmer plasma.
