I'm shopping for a new mouse and keyboard since my current little Diamondback is a acting up. Poor thing....I almost don't want to let it go..

Now, I was looking around logitech's site after taking look at the G15 keyboard. I saw that promotion for the G5 Laser Mouse from logitech on gamespot, and I thought why not. It brings me to this page:

http://www.logitech.com/promotions/promo.cfm?contentid=13496&countryid=19&languageid=1&ad=cc_gsBeye1_728

Or Linked for the lazy-

http://www.logitech.com/promotions/promo.cfm?contentid=13496&countryid=19&languageid=1&ad=cc_gsBeye1_728

Now, on it, there is the G5 Laser Mouse, and the G7 mouse?1 What the crap... why is the g5 the newer edition and yet there is a g7 with almost the same design? Could anyone clarify the differences between the two products and why they are promoting the g5 instead of the g7? From the names, I can only tell one difference, in that the g7 is presumably cordless. And the G5 has no product page.

Weird why didn't call it like G9 or something that makes sense in the product line. Any ideas when the wireless edition of this new g5 will arive, and with the same paint scheme and features?

It cant and wont come with the new features. The G7 cant use weights, casue that lowers battery life. The G5 is the Wired edition of the 2 and can hold more features, because of the being wired and the fact that it sells more. They added the extra button, becuase of people complaining and it was on the MX518 series before, which is just like the G5, but no weights, no laser. Its opitcal.

The G7 mouse is by far the worst mouse I have ever had or used. The mouse before this one was also a logitech and it sucked batteries like a *****. I don't understand why people hype the G5.
Just to give Logitech a little plus... I do use a keyboard that runs for months under absurd use for months.

You have been warned.

Ooo, what a low blow Kato. :D I own a G5 and it's fricking sweet. I love the weights and the overall feel of the mouse. It's well worth it.

Counterstrike: Source, Farcry, World of Warcraft, Half-life 2, etc all are on medium to high settings except WoW. My computer is fine, the mouse freezes up just sufing the internet.
Personally I think I would have been better off with a cheap $4.99USD mouse.

If you really want a wireless mouse... get the G7... otherwise get the G5 (especially if you're into games)...

Yeah, the mice are excellent. I use a MX1000, balance between work and play :) If I was to get a new mouse it would be the MX Revolution, but that's me.

NEVER buy a wireless mouse. If you game get a G5 or a MX518. Both are very good. I game with a G5 and a Steelpad S&S mousepad.

I own a G5 and it rocks! My gaming improved dramatically when I got this mouse. It is so accurate and the weight system is awesome. The software allows me to configure keystrokes to buttons to make ingame controls much more efficient.

The extra buttons are one of the few nice things when they work. I have the thumb button bound to "reload" on CS:S and its a lot better than moving a finger over to "L". The sad part: Sometimes Setpoint fails to detect when a program or game is up. To fix it, you have to kill the setpoint and other process, restart them or restart the whole computer.
If the software worked and the mouse didn't disconnect then I would be jumping up and down hyping the G7 but that is not reality. The only practical use I have found for that "on the fly" sensitivity adjustment is when I need more detailed control in Photoshop.

To Kato_: My computer has been going strong for many years and does what I need it to do. I see no lies in my words and I recommend that you cease in disrespecting my computer.

I use a G7 (not using the Setpoint drivers, never like to use Logitech drivers :D) and it's fine. I don't really know where the complaints come from... like how would adding weights to a mouse reduce its battery life? It's not like the batteries have more drain because you're moving the mouse with your hand, heh. The real reason it can't use weights is because the weight cartridge IS the battery. It uses two small swappable batteries.. they last about 10 hours and take 2 hours to recharge. Instead of going for single larger batteries that require the mouse have downtime, they just have two small ones that you can plug or unplug as you wish, and the wireless stand is the charger. So the real issue is that the batteries are designed to run out about once a day, and need to be changed when it happens. It takes about 5 seconds for me one-handed. That said, the G5 is the same thing + adjustable weights, so it just simply skips past any possible issues. I have a G5 (got for free, the Dark Messiah one) and G7 (got for $25 via Buy.com back in September) and use the G7, pretty much entirely because I like how the G7 looks a lot more. :D If Logitech made a 'carbon' G5, I'd be all over that.

Id go for the G7, i have its great.

The battery life is fine.  Some people are (apparently) idiots and either dont charge the back up battery, or ignore the "BATTERY CRITICAL" message, so to know when to swap batteries.

The batteries are hot swap, meaning they pop in and out etc.

Great design for my hand.  I have large hands and it feels very comfortable, unlike Razers because they are much too small for my hands.

1 side button doesnt bother me, and its in a Vertical, going counterclockwise.  This isnt possible with a wire on the end of the mouse.

You can run just about any game at high settings with any hardware (sometimes) but the thing is. Is does it run smoothly? And the FX5200 is not a good card. Anyway, the G5 is your best choice I think the vote is in favor of the G5, can't go wrong there. ;)

if he is in fact able to run any of those games he mentioned on medium settings smoothly, it must be at a resolution of 800x600 or less. my old comp downstairs has a geforce4 ti 4600 which is a superior card to the fx5200 and can only run far cry on medium at around 25 fps and WoW at around 30 on lowest settings. so please take ur lying somewhere else.

Note: The Counter-Strike: Source server that I play in is a 50 man server with about 45 playing. Without people playing I get far more FPS on de_dust2
Dust with stats
Dust without stats
Half-life2

Due to the fact that the server has a game most of the time and often full, I keep shader levels on low but texture levels on high. High textures and shaders are enabled in Half-life 2. CS:S, Half-life 2 and Farcry are all in 800x600. Farcry is left out because I don't know how to get FPS to show but It does play very smooth. 23FPS and up is smooth for me and IIRC, most console games run at 30FPS. I also use a lot of higher res models for CS:S but I doubt it takes away more than 2fps. My frame rates in CS:S is about 20-25 depending on how many people are on screen and where I'm at. World of Warcraft wasn't supost to be in the medium to high list, it runs minimal because its a sad game.
I guess I should also say that the FX5200 is passive cooled.
I still see no lies in my posts.
