What do those have to do with the games he mentioned? Anyway, TC, maybe try Two Worlds 2 and also the Gothic Series (I think Arcania is the latest one).

Ill just list the long last games that ive played alot

- Fallout New Vegas - 7 playthroughs, where as I could not finish F3 a 2nd time. Its better in every way except radio stations

- Total War Shogun and its expansion - Already have 150 hours on this myself, its godo singleplayer or coop with a friend

- Stalker series (these can last pretty long)

- Gothic2 - One of the best rpgs of all time in my opinion, think iv ebeat this one arond 4-5 times over the years. It has a TON of content. (just stay far far away from Gothic4 Arcadia its one of the worst rpgs ive ever played).

- Morrowind - My fav of the Elderscrolls series, over 400 hours logged into this game over teh years

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is good. Though I'm still getting the hang of it, it's quite addictive. It feels more large-scale as opposed to the COD series. You can fly copters and drive vehicals and tanks as well. Getting a kills isn't easy at all IMO, but when you do, it's very rewarding. A single match can easily last over 40 mins.

You may want to kick it up a knotch to BF3 since it likely uses the same system. The bottom line is that the Battlefield series will keep you VERY busy in the multiplayer department.

As far as single player, I recommend GRAW2 on the hardest difficulty. Moving your squad around and trying to find the right tactics is extremely satisfying, though the bots won't be very intelligent at times.. It's not like COD where you can run out in no-mans-land and live to tell the tale. You've gotta think this one out and it'll take a you a cool minute to finish the campaign.

Stalker series is the closest (and best) your gonna get if your looking for something close to Fallout 3 and long. Borderlands with dlc's might be a good choice also, but it is better played with friends. Single player is ok though. Just not as fun.

Grand Theft Auto keeps you busy for lots of hours. GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas and GTA 4 are all great games. I'm a big fan of the series, but try San Andreas, that's the game with the most stuff to do besides the missions, even if my own top favourite is Vice City.

First time I've posted on gamespot in agessss, so I'll try to make it a good post!

Games similar to fallout 3..

  • Deus Ex : Human Revolution - I know it's not too similar, and it's only about 20 hours - But I played through it multiple times, leading to a playing time of around 70 hours. It's more of a shooter then an rpg, but still - It's good fun.
  • Fallout 1 + 2 - Set in the same universe, different genre - quite long and quite fun.
  • Stalker series - Probably the one most similar to fallout 3 imo, I wasn't a huge fan but I still enjoyed it. It's also quite long.

Games similar to dark souls...

  • Erm.... I don't really know many on the PC. If you wait till the end of the year, you can pick it up on pc - Not ideal considering you want to start soon.
  • Risen. Only one I can think of, and even then its still very different.

Games similar to Skryim...

  • Elder Scrolls series - Personally, I prefer Oblivion over Morrowind, and Morrowind over Skyrim. All of them are long and engrossing.
  • Risen. More similar to elder scrolls then dark souls ^^.
  • Gothic Series - I didn't enjoy them that much, but you might. They're quite long as well.
  • Two Worlds 2 - Again, I didn't enjoy it, but you might.

Games worth checking out which are quite long term (yet not what you asked for)...

  • MOBA games (LoL, HoN, dota, dota2) - Not really what your looking for, but they can be fun and you can play over a long term- And most are free.
  • Starcraft 2 - Again, very time consuming, yet also rewarding.
  • The Old Republic - The best mmo out at the moment (In my opinion). Pretty generic, but I feel it does most things very well (I don't play anymore though D: ). If your willing to wait, you might as well get GW2 though.
  • Minecraft - I personally don't see the appeal of it, but I know people who spend hours every day on it.
  • Multiplayer Shooters - BF and COD are both known for being addicting and long term fun. Same for CSS ;D .
  • High budget rts - I know I've mentioned starcraft, but I mean one focused more on singleplayer. Games like Shogun 2 and even tactical turn based strategies like CIV5 can become very long term. One of my friends has spent over 200 hours on shogun 2, and just under 90 on CIV 5.

Hope this helped.

I still play Rome Total War, any of the Total War games in fact. If strategy games are you're thing that is. Once you get bored with the vanilla games and expansions there are tons of really good mods for these games.

An RPG that keeps you busy for a long long time? Easy, World of Warcraft. It's kept people busy for well over 7 years.

cRPG for Mount and Blade Warband. I've put over 1500 hours into the game myself, while I've always had a hard time putting more than a few hours into Fallout 3 or Skyrim. In cRPG you create a character, play in online battles to earn gold and XP, and use the gold to buy from a large selection of gear. There are several types of class types you can be...(foot archer, slow and heavy melee class, fast melee class, shielder, horse lancer, horse archer, or hybrid of any of these etc.). The main gametypes are battle (TDM where you don't respawn until everyone on a team is dead), Siege (one team defends a castle and the other attacks), and duel (self explanatory).

The reason why this game provides long-term entertainment is the combination between the addicting swordplay and the satisfying progression. The combat in this game is really in-depth and has a high skill ceiling. Even 1500 hours into the game, I would say I'm far from the best fighter. When you get as good as me though, you can single-handedly take on 5 enemies in battle at once. One additional thing worth mentioning is that the game has a really dedicated community - I've been playing with many of the same players for almost a year!

Singleplayer games to me seem repetitive and shallow in comparison. I've never found the fascination in the artificial difficulty. Isn't it a lot more satisfying to best another human player in combat? As opposed to mindlessly spamming click and easily killing all of your A.I. foes?

If by a high skill ceiling you mean a skill curve so ridiculous that any competitive player will be driven into depression if they play too long? A skill ceiling so high that its lower bound is the upper bound of an uncountably infinite set? A skill ceiling so high that CS and Quake players quiver at the mouse + kb finesse required? I've spent hours just dueling one friend of mine on WFAS, I especially think WFAS has a more strategically satisfying campaign compared to that of Warband with respect to how troops are handled, however Warband is more polished and has more mods, some of which can almost be considered games of their own. It's effectively a combat simulator.

By a high skill ceiling, a player who's really good could take on 20 players who aren't good. You'll find players who duel nothing but other veteran players for hours on end and remain nearly untouched. I'm not going to claim the skill ceiling is higher than Quake, because it's not. It's a point where everyone can have fun - not just the best players (such as Quake's scenario). As a whole, the game is less reliant on luck than Quake or Counter-Strike. Even though the games are ultimately skill-based, it's easier to die in a FPS before you even see your opponent. That'll never happen in Warband unless you're not paying attention.
