If you crank-up the difficulty levels on FarCry that game will last you quite a while. Its somewhat open-ended so its kind of interesting to go at the island from different angles.I haven't tried it yet but Stalker's supposed to be open as well-lots of areas to check out.Ken1a
whats even better is far cry is now free!!!!

Or if you play it on the easiest difficulty level and run around doing the craziest #&$% possible... let's just say that Far Cry has a lot of potential for amusement.

at highest difficulty levels far cry has chances of lasting forever

lol,yea FarCry was one of the first FPS I ever played and I thought I was never going to reach the end-It's still fun to just look around the island, see what I missed the first few times.[QUOTE="naval"][QUOTE="Ken1a"]If you crank-up the difficulty levels on FarCry that game will last you quite a while. Its somewhat open-ended so its kind of interesting to go at the island from different angles.I haven't tried it yet but Stalker's supposed to be open as well-lots of areas to check out.Ken1a

deus ex is pretty long.greatmax1
Yup, longest FPS I've ever played. Just loaded it up yesterday actually and its as fun as it was years ago.
Far Cry is also the longest typical FPS Ive ever played. By typical I mean straight shooter, no gimmicks or anything just you, guns, and enemies.
The original Unreal. That game took forever to complete.TheCrazed420
Ooooh ya, forgot about that. THat was so long...almost too long lol
If you don't have the money or the power to run Bioshock, might I recommend its predecessor, System Shock 2? Put it on the hardest difficulty, play it through with all three classes, and try to grab every log, and I guarantee it will take a long, glorious while.
And Far Cry isn't bad, either, though you'll spend half your time banging your keyboard in frustration on the last level.

Heh yeah the last level in far cry was a pain in the rear. But i kinda wish more new games was that hard, because what a sence of accomplishment you felt when you had finished far cry :)
Deus ex, half life and several of the other games mentioned aint that long. Deus ex shuld be over within 10-15h
From what my friends have told me, far cry seem to be your best bet, althought any of the older FPSs shuld last you at least a while. The lenght/cost ratio for games like System shock (1 (needs DosBox) & 2), deus ex 1, theif, No one lives forever, quake 1, doom and so onshuld be farley good, althought i dont play enought FPSs to really know which one would be the longest.
[QUOTE="Alnar"]What about..Painkiller?...technically speaking, the only thing you do in this game is constant shooting ..so it wins merely by number of shots fired and monsters whacked.Tsunami23
Painkiller rules.
True.
While Deus Ex is a long & great game, the shooting sucks. I'm surprised people are talking about if as if it's a straight-up Shooter.
Deus Ex is on Steam for $9.95. I just may get this again.

Well that's because Deus Ex wasn't focused totally to be a FPS game. Those RPG elements that distinguish the game among the others influenced on it a bit. But well, that's my opinion -.-
For long games, I would say Duken Nukem 3D Atomic Edition. It gave the 3 episodes with another one, almost more crazier than the other 3.
Everyone keeps talking about Fallout 3 like it's going to be an FPS... Should be at least 20 hours, regardless.
And in case you haven't noticed the avatar, Deus Ex. I guess you could beat it in 12-15, but I tend to take longer, sneaking around and screwing with the AI.

Not if you're searching for all the goodies that's hidden in the game -- or having fun with TNT and trash cans in the 'Ton hotel (nearly killed all of the baddies before they even got up to the stairs)!
On average, it's about 30 to 35hrs.
Longest FPS game I've ever played is Thief and Thief 2. Put that on the hardest difficulty level and you got yourself one long game. But it's not a standard FPSor run and gun, it's a creep around in the dark tracking the guards to know when you can sneak around and hit them with the blackjack. Great games however.serieus
They're not even a type of FPS (First Person Shooter) to begin with. Awesome games though.
A few people said it before, the Original Unreal take a long ass time to beat, but the game is completely worth it and is still my favorite single player FPS of all time. The graphics were amazing at the time on my voodoo2 addon card, heh. First FPS i played with a mouse and keyboard i believe, even though some before it gave you the option.
Also still has some of the best music of any FPS, i still have many of the tracks on my computer somewhere.
Bioshock is bloody good looong if you take a meticulous aproach....and you're preety much forced to do so especially on hard dificulty :)corneliu
I beat it in like 12 hours... 1 sitting because I had nothing better to do.
