All the cool MMO's slated for my 360 seem to get ditched and end up PC exclusive.

My question, and I appreciate any input and advice from you guys, is this : Could I buy a Mid to High end laptop, park it on my entertainment center, jack it into my HDMI TV, hook up a wireless controller and jump into some Huxley, Age of Conan, or Crysis ??

Any special hardware I need for such an interface?

Thanks in advance for any helpfor these nooby questions.

Any flamers can just step back cuz I can smell douche from a mile away.

You need a laptop with an HDMI port, and a wireless Xbox360 controller with a wireless adapter. Yes it can be done. As many are about to recommend, you will get more gaming mileage from a desktop dollar for dollar.

Yeah, if you're looking for something to leave in your entertainment center, I'd personally look into building a proper HTPC. It's not particularly hard if you do the research.

If you want to go the laptop route, that'll work fine for what you described if it has HDMI-out. Only problem I see: while controllers will work fine for many PC games (the 360 controller doesn't even require any configuration for many recent titles), it's a really bad idea to use one with a MMO. The control schemes are usually very complex and not at all fit for a controller; you'd be better off getting a wireless keyboard/mouse setup for that genre.

Good luck in your PC gaming endeavors!

On top of that, make sure the video processor in the laptop is at least a mid end ATI or Nvidia chip.

Thanks a bunch for some points in the right direction. I do want to go with a laptop because I've always owned them.

As far as controllers, I'm sure I'll be able to rig up a wireless 360 controller and then add a mini keypad for hotkeys and such.

Now I'll have to research spec requirments and graphics cards, but it's good to know it can be done.

I want to be playing Huxley on my couch, feet up & beer in hand.

Any more advice greatly appreciated..

ASUS recently released a "budget" gaming laptop for around $800, it had a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo in it and an Nvidia 9800M, that would definitely do the trick, I don't remember the name of it. Perhaps someone here knows the name? One of the best deals on a gaming laptop I've seen in a long time, 9800M has a lot of power to it.

HTPC with wireless keyboard or mouse bump. You can throw in blu-ray as well in the mix, there is no such laptop that is cheap by the way.

So you've always owned laptops so you're getting another one? If you're not going to listen to us, don't ask for our advice. Laptops are a terrible investment for any sort of gaming. They're not designed to be upgraded, they're less powerful for more money, and you're paying for a screen you're not going to use. What you're doing is akin to someone with a big family buying a 2-seat car because they've "always owned them". Same goes for the controller.

its not that hes not listening to advice. Its that his getting answers to questions he never asked. I see that a lot on PC forums. Everyone knows something better than someone or something else. For Example:

I posted about a gaming laptop the other day. I was comparing 2 gaming laptops of the same price range I can afford. My answers I got

"Those laptops are crap IMO el oh el. Get this laptop insted because I said so. "

didn't really help on the comparison of the 2 laptops I was looking at. Just brushed it away for a more expensive laptop.

Or my favorite

"gaming laptops are garbage, get a PC because everyone on this forum has one and posts their PC hardware specs in a massive dick measuring contest. Anyways why even post about useless stuff. Get a PC or don't. Get what I say or I will hurt you"

Thanks?

Anyways Hes looking for a decent laptop with HDMI out. He wants to know if anyone knows any and how it would work out with a controller and such. Some suggest he gets a PC thats fair. However its clear he would rather go the laptop route. Some of you seem that as damnation or that he has tossed your pithy suggestions behind because they were not good enough.

Leave the guy alone. Hes looking for a decent gaming laptop. Check this http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668231.php it has HDMI out and can handle the games you are looking to play. Now you can probably get that package a little cheaper but I found that just farting around in google.

Dude it sounds like your mainly going to use your labtop for gaming. Play it smart and get a gaming desktop, it's cheaper and way more powerful for the same price as a high end labtop. A desktop can also be hooked up to your tv. If you plan on buying a desktop check out cyberpower. If you want me to recommend you one give me a price point.

Rule number #1 about PC gaming is don't buy a labtop unless your loaded with a lot of $$$$, and if don't mind leaving your labtop on the charge the whole time you use it.

Hey, why do you people always lecture to people about how to spend their money? No need to get upset and say things like "Don't ask advice etc...". He wants to know if he can accomplish it with a laptop, yes he can, sure let him know that the desktop is an option, but if doesn't show interest in a desktop leave it at that. Help give him advice so he can achieve what he wants.

He has no reason for getting a laptop. He's not scrapped for space like a dorm student, he's not gaming on the go, he's not doing ANY of the things that might require a laptop. He's just getting one for reasons that make no sense. I've seen people ignore this advice, splurge out on a gaming laptop, and surprise surprise, within a year or two a game comes out that they really want to play and can't (or not at the settings they want) because they though laptops were cool.

If there is any way possible,go to desktop. You can get a nice gaming PC for 500-600$,if you build it yourself.Lapotps really are a bad idea for PC gaming because of upgrade capabilities and much more expensive.

Just let him know that desktops are an available option and discuss HIS NEEDS first, before ASSUMING HIS NEEDS. Don't start some zealous crusade to change his opinion.

if you plan on playing mmo's you gotta use a keyboard and mouse, the controls in mmo's are more suited to that setup by which I mean I've played ff11 and lotro and it just works better with kb/mouse for communication and gameplay, game pads are more for games like GTA/action/adventure/single player rpg's, hope ya know what i mean.

I'd go for that Asus lappy that was suggested decent mobile core 2 duo and a 9800m will be sufficient for most mmo's, crysis well that may depend on the resolution.

This MSI lappy looks good, $1000 though :(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152095has hdmi port/1gb video ram on dedicated 9800 card, 2.2ghz p8400 c2d, 320gb hdd, 4gb ram.

so the OP wants a laptop to game with. Well i guess its his own money to waste. Just let it be. I find it sad that many ppl dont understand that laptops are simply a bad choice for serious gaming in that, their shelf-life cannot keep up over time once the hardware gets outdated. That is why we all scream: "build a desktop!" simply cuz the hardware in a desktop can mostly be upgraded over time and you are not stuck with a portable "brick" of a laptop that really can run nothing over the span of a few years (or less) But by all means, its your money, if you want to be able to run crysis on a current day laptop at any acceptable res, you will need to spend atleast 1200+ bucks on it. But then again, your idea of acceptable may be different then mine...

I wouldn't recommend a laptop for gaming, although they can play games if you get a good one they are really expensive and get burring hot after a few hours of gaming. I'd find some small micro atx case which can be found for around the same size as consoles. Anyway to hook a pc into a hdtv you just need either a dvi or hdmi to dvi depending on the tv inputs and some audio cable. To use a x360 controller you will need the x360 wireless receiver. Then you can use a 360 controller in any game which support controllers which is pretty much every game these days and crysis does support a controller, not sure about the others.
