I'm looking for a laptop that can play most current games at solid frames (especially BF3 and skyrim). There are so many different models of laptops that it gets kind of confusing. I know I want something around these specs i7-3610qm 8gb ram Nvidia 660m or better ~500gb hdd Having trouble deciding between 15.6" and 17" This Asus looked nice http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2355975&SRCCODE=WEBAMZP1 and I would be able to do in store pick up which would be pretty awesome. Or a sager NP9150 http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9150-clevo-p150em-p-4341.html The sager does go up in price when you factor in windows at the very least. If I'm going the sager route and have to wait for them to build it I would likely upgrade the video card and keyboard. Benchmarks show the 660m to average 51fps at medium on BF3, which is alright much better than my current laptops HD2000 that's for sure. Considering the Asus I linked will be ~1400 at least with tax, should I try to find something with a more powerful GPU or go for that? I would have to wait another month before I could even order the sager as the 680M and 7970m aren't available :( My desktop has a gtx670, ideally I'd like something that can perform in the same ballpark...or at least faster than a gtx 460. I also found this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2355976&CatId=4938 It has a 670m which is a 570m right? But at this price it's pretty much the same price and specs as the sager np9150.

go with the sager
i have the np8130
i love it
also that looks like the same lcd, the 95% ntsc gamut one, you can overclock it

I made a thread about that.

so nice for quake live
i can own on teh go, not that I cudn't at 60hz or 75hz, but it's much easier with 95.

also nice modding scene with the sagers

custom bios'z for changing the turbo TDP, duration, and all that.

How long does sager take to build? I would likely get the steel series keyboard, 670m (or 7970m), thermal compound upgrades so it would be around 1700usd. What screen do you recommend I was thinking the matte cheap option...I'm gonna check out the asus g75vw-ts2 in store tonight, how does cooling compare between the two brands? Asus has that mammoth exhaust system out the back. As far as sager modding goes how expandable is it? Like in terms of having room for a SSD and changing out the GPU and CPU...I'm guessing the cpu would be limited as IVB is the last thing on LGA 1105.

i got mine in about 3 weeks after I ordered a lot of that time went from xotic(reseller I got it from) shipping it to nebraska, and then back to california to avoid tax. I recommend the 95% NTSC matte screen, the screen is at the very top of laptops. It's in Mac range, it destroys other laptopz. For thermal compound upgrade, I guess if you wanted to. I changed it myself, even though I didn't have too, cooling is good on the laptop. Only reason I did was because I was adding a 3g card to my laptop from the spare antenna next to the wifi card, I routed it under the cpu fan. I don't know how cooling compares, the cooling on this laptop is good, it never overheats or anything. In fact on stock paste, I pushed my 560m from: 775 core and 1250 memory to 845 core and 1625 memory. I think the np9150 might support the mini ssd thing, I am not sure, you might want to check that if you are intersted. For i/o, it comes with a hd and cd drive by default. What I did was: bought a hdd caddy from ebay, and then removed the front cover my cd drive and put that on top of the hdd caddy from ebay, and put my main hard drive in there, 500gb seagate momentus xt. Then in the main slot I put a 120gb ocz agility 3. CPU is easy to change, but since ivy bridge is the latest until a new socket, don't expect any new cpus. For GPUs, it depends. A new gpu might fit, but might not work until a new BIOS is provided, and sager doesn't like to update their old laptops with new BIOS'z. But most times it will work even with an old bios. For instance, on my laptop, I have an Engneering sample cpu, and on the newer BIOS'z, they get throttled. So I flashed to the first bios they had and it had no 560m support, but it still worked anyway, but the BIOS doesn't see it, and I get the full speed out of my 2720 ES.

I have an ASUS G53JW as my laptop from XoticPC and it can play any game on the market at 1080p with 30FPS on pretty good settings but obviously it's nowhere near as proficient as a good desktop. In terms of raw power the Sager is the best however ASUS has the lowest failure rate of any brand (although mine has failed twice, luckily their warranty policy is extensive). If you can get a desktop then I recommend that, I will be building my own later this month.

I ended up buying the asus g75vw-ts2. i7-3610qm, 16gb ram, 670m and a 3d 1080p screen, all for 1620 the value was good and it's close by so any problems can be handled locally. JC I have a desktop. It's a i7-2600k 8gb ram, and 670gtx. The laptop is for lan with friends.

Yeah fair enough, I was considering selling my laptop to afford a better desktop but LAN is crucial.
