While this may seem very simple to answer, let me explain myself a little more. I'm looking for any game in any genre where you can play the role of a thief or looter. While some may think these are Griefing playstyles, I have always enjoyed the role of looting and stealing.

Here are the games where I played such roles

1. Thief Series

2. Ultima Online (had the most fun here)

3. EVE Online - Taking from Ore Macroers, although I would have liked to steal from other players, I had some difficulty.

4. Have dabbled in a little of Shadowbane. Was not a fan of the click-to-move style but perhaps I didn't give it enough time.

5. Baldur's Gate - Didn't have as much fun here

6. Neverwinter Nights - same here

7. Oblivion - the stealth system was a bit messed up. I could crouch right in front of someone and they wouldn't see me. The stealing system wasn't as interesting as it could be because it was so much easier to get money from dungeon running.

Any recommendations would surely but helpful. I have found a lot of games do not have such classes or opportunities because of the negative connotations attributed to them. But it's what I like and I can't help it. Please don't think less of me.:)

Oh there is nothing wrong with liking Thief games. It is one of my favorite genres as well and I dearly wish they would make more games focusing on it or atleast making it a viable, interesting gameplay option. You seem to be on the right track. I cant think of any other really good ones right now...

Darn, that's a shame. I agree, more games should allow the option. I can always go back to ones I have already played. Perhaps EVE-Online or something.

Actually, Morrowind uses a previous version of the Oblivion stealth/stealing system. It is thus also disqualified since MythPro1 already said that he disliked the Elder Scrolls stealth/stealing system.

Well, if you like thief games you will have a great time playing Thief III: Deadly Shadows. ;)

Just make sure you download and install the High Res mod for it.
Because without it's got some really bad textures.

If you get lots of points up in Stealth and Guile, Fable 1 & 2 can be a fun thieving game.

Oblivion lets you play the whole game however you choose - and you may well complete it by robbing everyone and living on loot from things you do have to kill. Don't have to kill to level up, just use your skills - so you can make a completely thief character.

Not true at all. It's a lot easier to go into stealth mode on Oblivion compared to Morrowind. Oblivion pretty much made it easier to be a thief and get away with it. I guess because there were complaints early on when Morrowind was released years ago that the sneak system was messed up, even though it wasn't. Some people just hadn't realized just because you have 70 stealth that you aren't going to be able to sneak up on everyone.....

I don't know if MMOs count but I highly recommend playing a burglar in Lord of the Rings Online. For one, the game is awesome. The burglar class is very important to trigger group manoeuvers (against elite ennemies)and is an important member of any fellowship. You can try it for free (7 days trial). www.lotro.com.

Well, I guess it depends on what type of Thief.

GTA series allows you to steal cars, planes, helicopters, and more...along with money. In the process getting sweet love in a dark alley from some ladies! :D

I know that Ragnarok has a thief system. I am not sure if you have tried that out. but I don't think it will be the same experience you're looking for.

If all else fails, I'd play games like Tenchu and Splinter Cell, they may not be thieves, but still allow you to sneak around in the shadows and Steal some lives.

and I know Assasins Creed is not a thief game, but I think it will be something to watch out for.

Sorry I can't be much of a help. Also Check out WoW and Diablo, they have rogues.

A game just came out very similar to thief....about a month ago...arg, I can't remember the name, but I heard the boards and it seemed the game was all about stealth missions.

A demo was released as well. I will see if I can find the name.

The name is Death to Spies.

Well, you can play a bandit in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. I don't know if that's exactly the kind of game you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it.
