I am surprised that no one recommended Bioshock. The game has a great story and has great gameplay. Can easily get 20 hours out of the game if you explore everything and really pay attention to the story (20 hours if you beat the game being good and evil). Or you can beat the game in 5 hours playing through really really fast not paying attention to the story or exploring and using the wrench/lightning combo.
Bioshock has an excellent story if you are playing the game purely for the story.
I bought Mass Effect and was not at all impressed with it, the gameplay was very boring and repititive and the story was way to predictable. However it is cool that you can pick and choose what happens to various people and the world as a whole in the game.

Than you should check out all warcraft games + dosen books that are released on Warcraft universe. Lore is certainly something that was made with lot of effort
While WoW is not story driven you are part of that living world and thats story for itself
The guy who said oblivion,well oblivion is too shallow story wise,morrowind was bether

Noone said you have to read them..as i said wow is not story driven , so if you didnt play older Warcraft games - you probably wouldnt understand it.
But if you did than when you actualy enter World of Warcraft and recognise all places you previously heard of ,saw or wanted to visit - its story for itself + there are LOT of story elements that are put in game, but you can SKIP them (unlike games like AGE OF CONAN that tried to be "story driven" and actualy that is boring to listen whan you play your 6-th character and cant skip it)
thanks for the copy/paste from...wikipedia?
EDIT: i've only played the second one, i gave number 3 a shot, and i'm sure thats where i could learn most of the story. But it got boring =P

Bioshock's is okay, but assuming most have played SS2, they know that Bioshock is a re-hash of SS2. Still as a game that stands on its own, the storyline is rather very well told.
[QUOTE="MrNacaa"]Fahrenheit has a good story and nice cinematic gameplay

fahrenheit, also known as indigo prophecy, excellent game.
jade empire, GTA games main storyline is always entertaining, tes4:oblivion, mass effect, grim fandango, fable..
I have to disagree with Fahrenheit. It started out strong with an intriguing story and gameplay but it starts to lose steam in the middle and totally falls apart towards the end both in terms of story and gameplay.
Jade empire and Fable dont have great storyline and from what I have played of Mass Effect so far the story is not mind-blowing.
[QUOTE="jedinat"]KOTOR has a nice story.

I'll 2nd this. It didn't rely on existing Star Wars storylines for it's own story, and it's got a crazy plot twist that I didn't see coming at all.
+1 and KotOR 2 and The Witcher.Mass Effect has a good storyline as well.Neverwinter Nights 1+expansions and NWN 2+expansion both have good storyline as wellPlease Log In to post.
