Well the last time I played a game that had a great story line was Mass effect which was a while ago now. I feel like I been playing way too many multi player games lately and just want to chill and enjoy a compelling story though I haven't shopped for games in a while and am alittle behind the times. Can anyone recommend me a good single player game and possibly multi player as well? BTW Fallout 3 doesn't interest me that much.

Fallout 3's story wasn't very good and the gameplay was kinda bleh...it was ok, but not really anything that would wow most people.

I really liked the story for Advent Rising (can be purchased on Steam if you can't find a copy, the game is about 3 years old now or so; it might be a tad hard to find an actual PC copy somewhere). The game has it's faults, it doesn't have the best graphics, but they're not horrible either. The game play is entertaining once you start to learn your super human powers. The cinematic scenes can be a little choppy or the voices don't quite match the mouth movements. The game has it's flaws, but it's more so the story that I enjoyed the most.

Too bad Majesco went under and the trilogy that Advent Rising was supposed to be (story written by Orson Scott Card - a Sci-Fi author) was put on hold. I really want to see how the trilogy ends, but it's too bad that probably never happen. You can check out my review of the game here:http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/adventrising/player_review.html?id=295429&tag=contributions;review13

On a side note:

If you happen to have an AMD dual core CPU, make sure you install their dual core optimizer so the game runs stable. Otherwise the game will run like it is going in fast forward or it may run in super-slow motion.

Mass Effect has probably one of the best written ones for a game.

Im gonna mix up genre here :

1. Mass Effect (its Bioware .. expect the best stories)

2. KOTOR (brilliant twist towards later stages, again Bioware)

3. Starcraft and Warcraft 3

4. The Witcher

5. Bioshock

Do you mind old games?

Old:

BG trilogy

Planescape

Deus Ex

New:

Witcher

That should keep you busy for a long time considering the BG trilogy is setup as one game and is 200+ hours alone :).

Planescape torment has to date one of the best stories ever written for a game...Baldurs gate 2 comes close but still can't topple planescape. So if you are simply aiming for an amazing story those two games are your best bet.
