I'm playing Anno 1404 right now, and it's awesome. I'm just looking for some recommendations on other city-building games. Are the other Anno games any good? Are they much different from 1404? I don't really feel like playing the same game just set in a different time period. Thanks.

Well theres always the Sim City building games. Civilization 4 is well more about building a Civilization but you expand through building and manage cities maybe not what you're looking for exactly but still very fun and has some city management properties not a lot though.

Sim City and Civ IV are good recommendations. I don't play many in this genre. Could also try Galactic Civs II its Civ in Space.

I thought about getting Civ IV. I tried downloading the demo, but it doesn't seem to work on Vista. I might give Sim City a try, but I'm looking more for historical city building games.

Ceasar IV is the latest I heard this is a good series but I don't know. Also I second the Total War Series It also has massive real time battles.

yes Anno series is worthy checking out if you like Anno 1404; next you can try Anno 1701, the previous one in the series, which is quite similar in gameplay.

my personal favorite though is Impressions' city building games: Caesar 1-3, Pharaoh (+expansion), Master of Olympus:Zeus (+expansion), and Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. I find Zeus the most fun, but all of them are great city builders.

also, you can check out The Settlers series.

btw,

Civilization and Total War games aren't City builders, they are empire management at a bigger scale, and there's no detial city building at all.

Sim City games are way too sandbox for my liking.

Get 1701, great game, not as polished as 1404, but fun to play. It's also this week's steam weekend deal!

Anno 1701 is a classic. Much the same sort of thing, though, and a little simpler in places. If you see it going cheap, I'd definitely pick it up. Caesar 3 was more immediately playable than Caesar 4 IMO but either is good. Tropico's another one to go for if you're willing to play something a little older.
