Wow all these people looking for good horror! Well I want to suggest the Silent Hill games, Dead Space is more action focused but they offer good scares, finally the Condemned series really deserve a mention. Condemned 1 is practically a horror masterpiece and very underrated, it can't be found on Steam I think, but you could order an Ebay copy. It definitely deserves to be played, as does the second.

i agree with you about Condemned. i remember playing it , the main character was in a old building and i heard in the distance something like "He is over there! Take that f--kin pipe off the wall and f--k him up!!" Then I heard metal being torn apart and the anticipation built up in me as I thought about where the fiend would pop out of. it was intense along with the rest of the game!

Cryostasis is pretty scary, you should get it definitely. It's cheap, it has Physx, and a fantastic story I thought.

Deadspace 1 is seriously the game that gave me the most scares and made me want to turn off the game. It is the only game my dog has ever reacted too, he would try to pull me away from my chair he felt my fear!

For some reason Dead Space didn't scare me. The aliens jumping out of the same vents was too predictable. Which reminds me I have to finish recording and uploading my play through of that game to youtube. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFAD38A4C4E5BC033&feature=plcp I might redo the first video since it lagged a little at the beginning.

System Shock 2 scared me pretty bad. It was something about the areas, the lighting, and the sound effects that really creeped me out. Enemies also tend to hit you when you don't even see them coming. Be sure to play it with loud sound, and low game brightness.

Unfortunately, games can never scare you. At least in my case, no game has ever scared me. I've played Condemned 1 (****ers never released the 2nd part on the PC), Silent Hill series (5 games), Dead Space 1 & 2, Call of Cthulhu, System Shock 1 & 2, and a few others I don't remember. I don't know why, but I just don't get scared by games, as I do by some movies.

Unfortunately not much more than has already been said. For something new I'd say maybe give Alan Wake a try.

They should make a horror game in the vein of Paranormal Activity. Now that's scary.

Scratches. Ignore the GameSpot score and play it. Amnesia, Dead Space, Silent Hill, Condemned - None of them even come close to the level of horror that Scratches has achieved.

Aliens Vs Predator, but not the 2010 but the 1999 game. There's 3 campaigns - marine, alien and predator and it's the marine campaign that made me jump off the chair a few times, the other 2 are not really scary but cool nonetheless.

That game was hard! When your being chased by those Muppet's in the hotel scared the hell out of me, i think i had to use a trainer on some parts, using a trainer sure did suck the life out of that game/ rant.

I wish the game didn't go rambo half way in though. I liked the levels where you did more sneaking.

If you have Garry's Mod try out theGhost Hunt maps and if you have Half Life 1 try out Afraid of Monster DC (the creators are also making Cry of Fear which looks amazing).

Condemned really is an underrated horror franchise. The first one was terrifying, I haven't beaten it yet sadly, but I plan on getting it on ebay and playing it on PC all the way one day. The second was also great but fell apart towards the end.

Still, the Condemned series deserves to be played TC, especially if you like horror.

you already played my 2 suggestions.

honestly I don't think any game can be that scary when you have a weapon to defend yourself, espicially a gun.

Amensia you are totally defenseless. your option is to run and hide or die a painful death. you can't just run into a dark room guns a blazing.

And rightfully so, Condemed 2 turned into an action game with no horror or soul that the original had a hint of. Same can be said with F.E.A.R the sequels are sh!t compared to the classic that reminded me of a scary mod for Halflife 2 with the suburb AI!

Really? That's odd. Condemned 2 was great, at least until the Barge part and everything (story, gameplay) turned to unscary poopy.

Still, I'm hoping for a third, and I really hope they go back to PC.

It was actually the resembelence of Halflife 2 that made me think that, first of all the look a like Ai and the one liners.
