I really like sandbox games, and I'd REALLY appreciate it if anybody could reccomend me a space game where you can build stations and structures.

GAMES I HAVE/TRIED: Freelancer + X3 + EVE

its not a sandbox game, but it is considered the best space sim ever - Freespace 2 (there is also a graphics mod that update the visuals) give it a try

Try to find a copy of Independence War 2. Great space sim. Like X3 but much more user friendly. (and a much better flight/combat system).

X3: Terran Conflict and Evochrom Renegades are the two best sandbox space sims around today.

Yeah, I love the game, but I just can't figure out how to do anything with it. I either blow up, crash, lose all my money and can;t sell anything I buy because no-one anywhere buys it.

I can only suggest Freelancer. I love it. If it could be given some great updated graphics and a new campaign I'd still play with all the same game mechanics.

Not meaning to sound awkward, but try an earlier game in the series - either X-BTF, or X2 The Threat. The series really is excellent once you get into it and understand how it works, but sadly they did get a bit caught up in making it deeper and more complex to the point of it being massively overwhelming to new players. X2 is probably the best place to start on the series. It has a lot of improvement over XBTF, allowing you to fly a huge range of ships, where the first game kept you in your initial ship (with lots of upgrades). Start trading in basic goods like energy as most places will buy that, and do some basic transport missions to earn credits. Once you have built up a nice amount of money you can start building your own space stations to produce goods. X2 is between the first and third games in terms of complexity, but if you get stuck with something you can look at the Egosoft X forums where there are good guides on most aspects of the game, particularly on trading and how to setup factories and economies that run themselves. EDIT - Corrected Egosoft forums

X3: Terran Conflict is the best space sim on the market right now in my opinion. Yes, it has a steep learning curve and yes it takes a little while to accumulate any wealth, but it is worth the time and effort to get into it. If you haven't tried Terran Conflict I would give it a go. The path to wealth is quite a bit shorter than the previous X games due in part to the availability of missions in this version as well as the various plot rewards. The game has an active and helpful community if you have questions or need some pointers. Head over to the Egosoft forums and have a look around. You may want to start with The Ultimate X Resource and Guides List.

I never picked up Star Trek Legacy because I was under the impression that it was flat out horrible, especially on the PC. Did patches/mods change that?
