company of heroes is a great world war 2 rts where the focus of battle is on map control with pretty brutal, infantry squads and a few vehicles (it's not a spammage game, a few tanks here and there will turn the tide in a battle)
it's a great game, and you can check out a demo
there's also dawn of war, which i prefer to company of heroes - it's more or less the same, but older, and set in the warhammer 40k universe - you can't go wrong with either one, so the setting you prefer would be the best thing to base your choice on
or, as mentioned, there's also medieval 2 - it combines turn based empire building (like civ) with real time battles on an epic scale - again, check out the demo - it's a masterpiece
For a little different gaming experience I suggest you check out Ground Control 2 and/or Homeworld 2, both great games and the graphs still look very good. They're not traditional rts, but they're still excellent games.
the only rts i can suggest are the age of empires/mythology series, dawn of war(warhammer), starcraft and warcraft, these are basically the only rts ive played but i think they are all good games.
If you have played before I suggest you go back to Starcraft: Broodwar. It's easier to play than something like Company of Heros, it's fun, it's less hoggy in graphics, and if you have played it before you don't have to learn it all over again. SCBW is definitely one of the best games ever made IMO.
I can not recommend COH enough, there is so much in the game and its so realistc that it blows me away, not to mention the graphics for an RTS game are phenominal, even the artilery etc going off on screen the framerate is solid, great game. Rome Total War is also a must.
Looking for great RTS games? Look up Relic, the best RTS developers... My recommendations... Homeworld - ONE OF THE BEST stories I've ever had the joy to play through. A Relic Entertainment game. Dawn of War - Again, another Relic RTS. Great, gory entertainment. Company of Heroes - What do we have here? Another smashing title from Relic Entertainment. Probably the best RTS money can buy.

I would have to go with Dawn of War and the expansions. That said i havent had a chance to experience Company of Heroes and i have only heard good things. The other option is check what mods are around for your old favourites to spice them up a little.
all of these are great games and i checked them all out but i'll probably check out demos first...but i will buy Company of Heroes for sure today. Thanks guys
