FEAR is more of an action game than straight horror. It has its moments but for actual tension and scares I'd good with Call of Cthulhu. But it's a bit older and a bit crummier and clunkier looking. But it does provide some great atmosphere. They both serve different needs in the horror scene. Cthulhu is more about building the tension and fear, FEAR is more about jump scares and loud noises.

Can't go wrong with either though

Amnesia and Penumbra series run quite well on older computers mate, have a look into it they are the best horror games around right now IMO.

Minimum requirements for Amnesia are:

OS: Microsoft Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7
CPU: Intel Pentium IV at 1.5 GHz (Intel Celeron 3.0 GHz)
RAM: 1GB RAM
Video Card: nVidia GeForce FX / ATI Radeon 9600
Direct X: 9.0

The Penumbra games are a few years older than Amnesia so if you can run Amnesia you should have no problem with those either.

The Walking Dead, obviously.  Exceptional drama horror and story. . . at least for a game.

Clive Barker's Undying. Still my favorite horror based game of all time. Keep hoping it will end up on GoG.com. I have voted for it and all should do so on their site.

Not really fear is a lot less taxing on the hardware than dead space.

Great list! I actually find myself going back to Alan Wake and i've recently begun my 4th playthrough and for some reason the game never seems to get old.

I still remember the first time i played through the game and how amazing it was both story wise and just the constant tension the game had, with some beautiful environments to add to the scare.

The horror in FEAR is secondary to the action. I'd recommend getting it regardless because the action in this game is fantastic. Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Penumbra: Overture/Penumbra: Black Plague are the best horror games I've played.
