Currently using a Blackwidow Ultimate Edition (old version) and it's starting to crap out... A few keys don't work anymore... so writing this is already a pain in the ass, gotta copy+paste a few letters.

I've been eyeing the Nighthawk X8 (brown keys) for a while now... Has anyone ever used these? How are they built? Solid? Cheap? Good quality Kbs?

Any other suggestions? I don't want the ones that look absurd and prefer something with backlight.

MX-Browns are the way to go. But if you don't need backlit keys, I'd go with the original build for Das Keyboard mx-brown. It's on Amazon.com right now for $120. Be careful. They made a revision of the Das Keyboard by a new manufacturer but Amazon is still selling the older builds by the original manuf. If you decide on a Das Keyboard, I'll get you the link.

Don't have much personal experience, but if I was to get one today, it'd probably be the Logitech G710+ (but I can't really justify the $180AUD price-tag, when I'm already quite happy with my $40 Sidewinder). Problem I have with most mechanical keyboards is that they look like they were designed by neckbeards, for neckbeards.

It looks like a solid Mech. Keyboard. From my personal experience, they are very loud, click-wise. But we're not all the same when it comes to hearing ability. Some might say it sounds like music.

does depend on the person, I like the clicky sound. not for everyone. For the record, it comes with Blues, Reds, and Browns. But each backlight is different. Blues come with blue, reds come with red, and browns come with....white

Oh nice! So it does come in browns. Hmm. This makes it even more interesting. Thank you for the recommendation. I might look into getting one for the media center computer in the living room. :]

o.o did you spill on it?

I think I may had recommended you on getting the board back when, or was it someone else.

Still working for mines, 2+ years.

I've read several complaints with the Blackwidow mech keyboard. Most user reviews come up saying it has poor quality build. Keys not working after a short period of time using it. Razer mouse are good though but I wouldn't recommend their keyboards. No offense to anyone.

Ive heard the same. A friend of mine bought one and the lettering on the keys began to fade after only a few weeks.  Oddly enough, I love their mice. I bought their 2012 Deathadder over the 2013 because I wanted the Blue LED to match my keyboard. Couldnt be happier with the mouse. Very comfy and working great so far.

Since I'm at work now, much easier to get into specifics since all my keys are working. W, T, G, K, 3, NUM 5, along with some of the symbols/punctuation keys just stopped working. I had just installed O-rings (since the gf wasn't too pleased with the clicky) to lower the clicky noise, made the keys stiff and now some of them don't work D: I removed them too but no luck, maybe I broke them when placing the keys back, if that's the case, holy hell are they cheaply made. I did however move out too so maybe during travels something happened? I really liked the features of the Blackwidow, I used some more often that not. The USB pass-through was great for my mouse and quickly plugging in USB sticks (when my mouse was plugged on the mobo rather than the passthrough)... and having audio in/mic was nice too... Pretty much why I'm leaning more towards the Nighthawk X8, but some of the ones you guys have suggested look pretty good, like the DAS Keyboard (brown) and the Quickfire. Thanks for the suggestions btw, I'll look into them :)

Stay away from Filco. The silk-screened key labels start rubbing off the first week.

Razer has serious quality control issues, some people will recieve a product that will service them for years to come and others my not be so fortunate with their Razer product. I personally had nothing but bad experieces with Razer keyboards and mice so I tend to stay away from anything with their logo on it.Cooler Master makes nice mechanical keyboards; if I remember correctly they are rebranded Filco mechanical Keyboards. Brown swtiches are a hybrid switch for typing/gaming, you could visit a local computer store that sells mechanical keyboards and try out all the diffrent switches since people have diffrent taste and tolerance to the sounds that some of the switches make.

Not too sure but iirc the bw was by somebody else. Though I would say overall their build quality is a bit of a hit and miss. The old copperhead was shedding like a snake would :P but in a plastic form, and the lachesis pointer would jump sometimes.

The selection was bit more limited before than it is now with the craze in full motion. Corsair should be good, they choose good manufacturer, and good support. The only downside is that some of the keys are rubber.

I'll go for a brown key, they feel sooo nice, blues(bw) are heavy, and blacks are heavy without the clicky.

coolermastet quickfire tk owner here. One big minus is that is not a true 10key. Having to constantly press numlock is a bitch. Also even after changing settings in my bios , it will not power on with the numlock on. Get a full 10key. The filco multicam is really sexy- just couldnt bring myself to spend that that much. Overall I regret the purchase.

For gaming I would honestly say Blues and browns are too stiff. (I Have mx blues)

I hear Reds are best for online shooters? Browns feel great for me. Blacks cause hand/finger fatigue.

Well, if you want to be a handsome young republican then get the apple wired keyboard.
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Keyboard-Numeric-MB110LL-VERSION/dp/B005DLDTAE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372929367&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+keyboard

I came from a cherry mx red keyboard to this. Scissor switches are better in every way. There is very little key travel, and only one resistive click.

My strafe has improved, and on typingtest.com my raw typing speed for cherry mx red after practice was:
raw 136
actual: 116

With my first time on the apple keyboard:
raw: 128
actual: 124

My strafe in game is better too, it's easier to counter strafe and 1:1 strafe when I have to.

If you do get it, you need this program though for all the keys to function completely properly(like the fn keys) http://uxsoft.cz/projects/applewirelesskeyboard/

Currently using a K90. Yeah K70 is something I would recommend, really nice build quality.
