Ok, will keep it short. I feel like buying a game that doesnt have any subscription fees, is preferably recent (hell, it can be 2 years old as long as its fun) and is unique....

And by unique I mean that ive played through Crysis, CoD4, Fifa08, tons of random RPG's (WoW actually got boring for me), Medieval 2, Silent Hunter 4 and things like Football Manager 08.

I really wanna dive into some new game that doesnt exactly follow a strict genre, but experiments around abit.Looking for something to keep me busyfor the holidays and doesnt get boring too fast. Any ideas are welcome...

One game I havent fully tried out yet is Solitaire....I hear its fun...brb....

Well have you tried Dark Messiah of Might and Magic?

And I know you won't be able to play it now, but Project Offset is one of my most anticipated titles for 2008 ;)

I don't see any racers listed, ever tried them (for something different)? If you dig multiplayer, Trackmania http://www.trackmanianations.com/indexUk.php has a rabid following. I'm not a huge online player myself, but I enjoyed Trackmania Sunrise offline quite a bit -- a different sort of racing game, but tons of fun ;)

Hell, I dunno, X3, Stalker, The Witcher all have unique qualityalthough are single player (you didn't mention wether you preffered single or multi.) Most unique game I have played that was recent was Portal but that won't keep you busy for too long.

Dude! What? Nobody mentioned Garry's Mod? Well, here's the link: http://www.garrysmod.com/

This game has to be the most unique and enjoyable sandbox game ever.

Also, it's multiplayer so you and your buds can go at it.

Only 10$ bucks for GMOD 10, but if you want to sample it get GMOD 9:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halflife2/download.html?sid=6115610

However I think that you may come to realise it's completley worth the 10 bucks, It's the game I play the most with my friends.

EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention, in order to play GMOD 9 you need half-life 2. It's not required for GMOD 10, though, I believe.

2nd on The Wicher. A good mature RPG that stays away from two tones choices, good and bad. Most choices are grey and affect you later on in the game which makes you really think about your decisions instead of just choosing one and reloading if you dont like the result. Fighting was sluggish at first but i ended up loving it.

Try Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. RPG set to the world of modern day goth setting with vampires.

I'm with whoever said King Of Dragon Pass, also try Dwarf Fortress, Deus Ex (+IW), Black & White, Populous, Europa Universalis, ROTTK, maybe some mindless hack & slash, Diablo perhaps, or Sacred if youve played Diablo to death, Pirates!, Monkey Island, UO, Planetside, Commandos 2 etc

If you tell me your fav genre i'll try to recommend some games you likely havent played.

Ciao

Make sure youve played Giants + Sacrifice before you die aswell

Give Soldiers: Heroes of WWII, Mechwarriors 4, Mech Commander, SWAT 4 (it feels slightly different to every other shooter because of its mechanics)Homeworld and Ground Control 2 (this is free now I think) a try

Also, seeing as you liked Civ4 give Galactic Civ 2 a try, the AI is so intelligent in the game that a new story is created each time you play the game.

damn dude you managed to list some of my best and most favourite oldies there. Like SWAT 4 (was really into SWAT 3), fun and not run and gun. Mech Commander was awesome. And Heroes of WWII was real interesting, underhyped and most importantly, unique for its time. Sacrifice was on my HD a month ago, ran through it again because of its greatness. And By Giants you mean Giants: Citizen kabuto? If so, loved the game.

Glad to get such a wonderful response. Keep the ideas coming!

PS: Ok, gonna go run out and buy The Witcher. Im a sucker for atmospheric games. And King of Dragon Pass looks real interesting, will maybe try it too :)

Some older RPGs you might like if you haven't already played them to death: Fallout 1 and 2, Planescape Torment, Arcanum. You could also try out Gametap if you're patient and into older games - they have a lot of stuff but the PC games can take a long time to download (why I ultimately dropped the service). Fable for a newer RPG.

Lego Star Wars is a good platformer type game. Supreme Commander is another good RTS (IMO) along with its predessesors in the Total Annihilation series. If you liked Diablo, Hellgate:London is good and you can pay for a monthly service but don't have to. Fate is another pretty fun, although simple, Diablo-eque game. I haven't played Titan Quest but it's supposed to be along these same lines as well. There's also Dungeon Siege II which I found pretty enjoyable.

Of course there is Spore but it won't be out for a long way off. And Republic Commando was a fun (although somewhat short) tactical type shooter. I also second the Black & White recs if you haven't tried those games yet. Freelancer if you like space shooting type games, although the game mechanics are little simple and it can be somewhat repititive. Caesar IV is a great strat/city-building sim type game as are all of its previous entries (the Caesar series along with Emperor, Zeus, and Pharaoh.

Yah I think thats all I have for now.

lol Corp, sounds like youve played everything out there!

Yeah definately meant Citizen Kabuto, the human part of the campaign was funny as anything

I'm seconding Republic Commando, Arcanum, Fallouts (andtactics if your into Jagged Alliance), Freelancer and Infantry Online. Also recommendingFreespace 2, Eve Online, New Star Soccer, Albion, Outcast, Beyond Good & Evil, Operation Flashpoint (maybe wait til GAME 2?), Anachronox + Blade Runner (especially if you played and enjoyed Deus Ex), Mafia, AVP 2, Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood (its like commandos), Port Royale + 2(if your into Pirates!), Europa 1400: The Guild, Imperium Galactica 2, Startopia, Silent Storm andGangsters 2

All these games I recommend playing, or atleast searching for them on gamespot and seeing if you like the look of them.

Shameless Advertisement: Read this http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=77768 then play EVE Online, or wait until the new expansions out, early december it should be.

If you'd like an FPS which really does redefine the genre (not Crysis) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is an amazing game (as long as you download the new patch, or you'll be battling against the bugs).

It definately is a new experience though. Or if you want to avoide the bugs, wait ti Clear Sky comes out. They don't tie in, so you aren't missing any info from the first one, as Clear Sky's the prequel.

If you're into a thinking type point and click game along the veins of escape from monkey island, and where in the world is carmen san diego, download Sam & Max Episode 4 from Steam (Based on the popular comedy show duo). It truly is hilarious, as well as unique.

I'm looking to buy them all.

Yea played STALKER, really enjoyed it!

Bloodlines, I was probably one of the more hyped up people about it when it came out. Was a solid RPG, but the buggy state kinda got to me.

And iveplayed Sam and Max, both new and old, and both are great. Grim Fandango is one of my proudest games up on the shelf.

Damn, i can't help you then. Just replay Tribes: Vengeance? that's always a good idea.

And what did you mean by the buggy state of Vampire? Bloodlines had no issues, apart from the bit with Saving that Archaeologist, whichcould be overcome, with a simple code. (We just have no bloody clue why there's a piece of a Meteorite outside of La Croix's Tower).

Oh no, on release day, Bloodlines had quite a few issues (hense all the user-made patches that are stil being released). Things like the intro scene going out of sync to characters in the intro scene simply gliding along the floor made it look and feel really unfinished. Now though, its a different story.

And kill me sideways, Portal is the ONLY game i havent played yet. Might be what im looking for but im sure it wont keep me busy for weeks and weeks.

Any of you remember Savage: Battle for Newearth? That was interesting for a while i remember...

Buy Unreal Tournament 3!Frag0Lution

QFE. BTW, on Portal, yes, definitely buy. Will it keep you busy the holidays? No. Is such a short game still worth the $20 it costs? Hellz yeah. It made me think that maybe in the future we'll get some amazing puzzle games that are in 3D, have a good sense of humor, and the difficulty is just right. Not too hard, not super-duper easy.

FPS-- I'd suggest ut3. Honestly, it'll keep your attention grabbed for quite a while. Not a humongous variety in it, but, it's very, very addicting. CoD4 and Crysis are both amazing in their own aspects, but when I play them, I just don't feel the level off addiction, craziness, the adrenaline rush that UT3 gives me...

If you're looking for a RPG-- Well. That's a harder question. I rarely have it in me to finish any RPG that's longer than 30 hours of gameplay... (Not even WoW (I know, MMORPG), even though I got really close, with 200 hours of gameplay :O ) On the Sacrifice statement-- Yes, yes, yes, that game is AMAZING. Could probably get it for $5, but on the other hand, it's.. well... 6 years old, I think. So, in short, I don't have an answer for a PC RPG I'd recommend off the top of my head.

RTS? Even though I didn't play it much past the beta, I'd suggest World in Conflict. Very fun, although I'd recommend you demo it first. Whether or not you like it is dependant on whether or not you like the RTS type it is... If not, I'd recommend Supreme Commander, or the newest C&C.

Is Clear Sky an expansion or a whole new game? Cuz I want to know if I should just wait until Clear Sky to get into the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe or not.Forerunner-117

clear sky is a "prequel" to STALKER SoC. not an expansion as far as I know. I recommend you get into it right now! I have played it through many times and it is ALOT of fun. there is no other game quite like it. it's got rpg elements all tied into the game. and a great shooter as well.
