I don't know if you are into Star Wars or not, but you can't go wrong with Knights of the Old Republic.  The first one killed.

There is the Knights of the Old Republic series.  There are some off beat titles as well.  Space rangers is there, and two quirky Russian titles are Hard Truck Apocalypse and Star Wolves.    Then there are space trader games like Freelancer and X3.

You may also enjoy Space stategy and exploration games, like Space Empires, Sword of the Stars, and Galatic Civilazations.

Finally, the highly anticipated Fallout 3 teaser trailor will be out June 4th.  Fallout two is an excellent game and is still one of the best games in the way of a non-linear scifi game.  Many people find its combat system slow, and it will require patience.  The game is old, but it still runs well on Windows XP.  I was playing it just the other day.

Definitely the first one. Sith Lords had it's moments, but it can't hold a candle to the original Bioware epic.

KOTOR 2 is better, but you should play the first one or you might not entirely understand the story.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Best RPG ever and GOTY 2003 ( made by BioWare ) ( superb nonlinear story with the greatest PC story twist ever, great locations, very interesting characters, only a few bugs )

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords - Good RPG ( made by Obsidian ) ( boring unfinished linear story with a terrible ending, boring locations, uninteresting characters, a million bugs, it's more like an expansion pack because almost everything was copied from KOTOR 1 and only a few things were added, better wait for the restoration project before playing it, but even than it won't be better: www.team-gizka.org )

Deus Ex - FPS with RPG elements

You could try some space simulations because they have RPG elements. I recommend you wait for Space Force: Rogue Universe, but you could get: Freelancer, Darkstar one, X3 etc.

Kotor 1 - By Bioware. Had a great story and is my recommendation.

Kotor 2 - By Obsidian. Also a good story (better than the 1st but less cut scenes & spoken speech and a lot more reading) however, 95% of the game was shamelessly re-used from Kotor1 without any changes. They reused many... many Kotor areas without making any changes save for the NPCs and monsters. They didnt really add anything new to the game save for some more upgrades here and there and maybe a few items. The game menus were more clunky and required a lot more clicking between to see stats from equipment and such unlike Kotor 1. The game is poorly balanced and much too easy. Kotor 1 at least had some challenges here and there. Kotor 2 also has a lot of bugs.

Both games are good but the crown definitly belongs to the original game. Kotor 2 is ok but it is the same game, with a different story made by a team that has historically ruined other franchises (see NWN & NWN2). Id say get them both. They should both be in the bargain bins for around $10 anyway.

Agree with KOTOR. You could also try the following: - Marvel Ultimate Alliance (8.3) - Has some sci-fi elements - Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators (8.1) - Restricted Area (6.7) - Think Diablo in space - Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magicka Obscura (7.3) - Has some tech/sci-fi elements - Anachronox (7.8 )

STALKER isn't an RPG anymore than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.  GTA: SA had more RPG elements than STALKER does, anyway.

You can always try NWN and NWN2 with downloadable mod content that changes it to modern eras.

This thread really exposes how little Sci-Fi RPG's are out there. Which is surprising considering how many PC gamers are Sci-Fi buffs. Well, at least I get to look forward to Mass Effect soon.... :P

look no further than Riddick. its immersive, breathtaking hi tech visuals, more action but with rpg elements too.

kotor2 is real cool and deep pure rpg, but looks rather lousy and dated...

Definitely have to agree with both of the KOTORs, and everyone is right about the original being the better of the two.

Don't even have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy them either.  They are just overall great games. Â
