Are there any recent games out there that don't actually involve fighting? I know it's a strange concept, but it HAS been done in the past. I'm primarily interested in games that involve harvesting resources, building stuff, shipping it elsewhere and making a profit. Some games that I've liked in the past:

Railroad/Transport Tycoon

City Life

Sim City

Startopia

Anno 1701

Transport/Industry Giant (these were actually pretty lame)

Is there anything more recent that I might like? Thanks for any help.

Try The Settlers (The new one - 6 if i'm not mistaken?). It does involve a bit of fighting, but it concentrates on city building and keeping your citizens happy.

Have you tried Children of the Nile:Immortal Cities or Port Royal 1or2?Both very good. There's also Sid Meier's Railroads, although I liked Railroad Tycoon a bit better.

Port Royale 2, but it does involve battles, but you can choose not to fight

If you mainly like building something, then the rollercoaster tycoon series is a cool thing to check out. Actually, I'm looking for a business strategy game too, so I'll be watching this thread. Anyone know about any railroad/transport tycoon sequels or look a likes? They're getting a bit old by now.

Thanks everyone for the help!

One other game I've got that was kind of fun (I forget why I got bored with it) was Patrician (2? 3?).

The Settlers - I've got the anniversary edition of Settlers II which I'm having some fun with. Are you talking about the most recent version of that (i.e., not the upgraded version 2)?

Locomotion - Actually, I tried that but didn't like it that much. I've still got it on the shelf, so maybe I should dust it off and give it another try. I was probably expecting something like a Transport Tycoon 3 and was disappointed, since I liked TTD so much.

Children of the Nile - Have it. Like it.

Port Royal - I have NOT tried this one. Maybe I'll pick this up.

Sid Meyer's Railroads! - Being a Sid Meyer fan, I bought this one, but I found it a bit too simplistic, cartoonish and limiting. As I remember, there's no method of signaling, right? You almost have to have an entire rail line for each train your running.

Rollercoaster Tycoon - I loved the original one. The second one seemed like just a warmed over version of the first. I only downloaded the demo of the third, but I didn't see much new unless you're really really into designing rollercoasters or your dream theme park. Me - I'm into the Benjamins.

On the post listed above they're referring to a new edition (Settlers:Rise of Empire)its supposed to be released today actually. Also,I know your really looking for a game without fighting but Galactic Civ.II:Dread Lords ,has a lot of other aspects to it that are great-trading, building an empire etc..Also, Caesar IV has some fighting but mostly a city builder.

I'd highly recommend you try Capitalism II. It's purely a capitalism simulation. There is nothing even close to fighting unless you count the general atmosphere of corporate warfare. I found it to have a steep learning curve, but once I wrapped my head around the intricacies of the very deep simulation, I was having tons of fun for weeks just seeing how much I could dominate the market with various goods. It's a fun experience, and you learn a bit about the economy as well. You can find it at reflexive.com or on Gametap. Enjoy!

I downloaded the demo to Port Royale 2, and as far as I can tell, it's exactly the same as Patrician 3.
