Fallout 1 & 2, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and Planescape: Torment are great RPGs, and they run pretty good on old computers too. :)

I just bought Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. It's a really good mature RPG with very interesting dialogue. I recommend it but you still need a decent computer... It's a three year old game.

/meh reinforces the opinion of replies 1+2: Planescape, Fallout games and Vampire: Bloodlines are all excellent...Bloodlines is Source, so if you can run HL2, you can run it :)

I may get shot for saying this but......

Depending on how tolerant you are of "older" graphics you may want to skip BG1. I found its graphic hard to bear. I even like Planescape's better, and it's an older game.

BG2 can be found in a boxed edition now for 19.99.

Everyone goes on and on about Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment, but I just cannot stand the Infinity engine. For some reason it makes me want to die.

I also tried Divine Divinity based on its praises and while diverting fora while it was ultimately a disappointment.

I'd suggest checking out Diablo2 and it's expansion, and if your computer can handle it, Morrowind. (check out the mod community for some incredible game improvements)

Maybe take a look at Anachronox, it's been forever but I remember enjoying that game.
