I'm in the same boat, companies have been putting out **** products for the last 2-3 years. They half-ass release and expect the fan base to pay for their short-comings (some people are dumb enough to pay). On the fence with Rift, but if any, that will be my next MMO if the word go is given.

Or, you can just wait until Guild Wars 2 comes out, whenever that is. That's what I'm doing. I'm just going to resuggest RIFT since I had so much fun during the beta.

Well now, usually these threads are in the terms of "And recommend anything but WoW!!", but since you did not state that, World of Warcraft is the right choice. Coming from a person who has played a lot of MMO's, WoW is by far the best and is very well done. World is amazing, very satisfying progression, interesting quests, great PvP, great endgame, the works. NO other mmo can claim those, NONE. Ironically I am currently tired of WoW while having 2k+ rating in 2's, 3's, and a few endgame raids under my belt, just not worth paying the money for only raiding twice a week now.

Playing Aion now as a time sink, game has gotten much better since its early US release, but still pales in comparison to what WoW was.

Try Rift, it's combat system and layout copies a lot off of wow, but I think the world is more interesting and there are features of the game that are entirely unique and very fun. It is released in like 2 weeks, so you'll be starting along with most other players. Plus the community is great, no annoying 12 year olds.

guild wars is pretty legit in my opinion. I've been playing it for three years and i havn't regreted the time one bit. plus it doesn't have a pricy subscription fee.

I've never liked a game more than Everquest 1. The huge, expansive world, varied classes, fun combat.. having to work together with other players for a LOT of areas. Even down to things like NPC interaction.. you don't just right-click them if they have an exclamation mark over their head. You have to talk to them and use key words as part of a sentence to get quest info.

Just so happens that they released two new servers last week, that will slowly unlock each expansion.. best thing to happen to the game, IMO.

The only thing some people might have trouble with are the graphics. The player models were re-done eons ago and look better than the original, and a lot of the zones were re-done at some point so they look a lot different.. but it's still not a super pretty game :)Uses a lot of assets from 1999.

World of Warcraft is the best one out by a stretch.

Rift is coming out soon and seems like a decent game too.

A good mmo, kind of an oxymoron these days.

Ultima Online, EQ, Daoc used to be good mmo's. Now all you have are a bunch of......

...look for the guy with the exclamation point, follow the map arrow to the "X" and kill 10 of this or collect 10 of that in that area, find the guy with a question mark who will reward you then send you to someone else down the road to do it all over again with different scenery.

Oh, did I mention you could do all of this without ever speaking to another person? Of course unless you can't refuse getting into the neverending political debates in open chat.

World of Warcraft is NOT a good mmo, it is the mmo that destroyed anything good the genre had going for it.

EVE online

Everquest 2

Aion

World of Warcraft

Rift

Lord of the ring online

Any of these and you'll have a great time. EVE Online is incredible and different from anything else out there; EQ2 is partially free, so why not give it a shot; Aion has beautiful graphics and has improved a lot from release; WoW is, well, WoW -- fantastic MMORPG; Rift will undoubtedly be great from what I hear from the open beta; LOTRO is a superb F2P game that has actually drawn in many people to buy the microtransaction packs because the game is so good. Go with any of these.

Yeah would like to comment about EQ2 extended.. If you really like the game you really only spend $10 one time fee to open up the majority of the game.. And the extended fixes one of the main problems I had with EQ2 Live.. And that was population, in it being barren except at the highest levels.. Not the case of Extended what so ever.

May I recommend Final Fantasy 11? The game is a subscription-based game and comes with 30 day Free Trial. It is an outdated game but the game is being consistently updated.
