Definitely one of the creepiest games....definitely!
[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]Thief 1-3 & Bioshock. CreamBeav
Why not include System Shock 2?! It's the one other game that makes this pedigree lineage complete!
Better yet replace Bioshock with SS2.

Bioshock isn't horror, it isn't even remotely scary.

It is quite an intense game at times, with a few scares here and there.
bioshock, bioshock, bioshock....and there was one more. Oh yeah, Bioshock. Hands down best horror game. Yes IT IS A HORROR GAME, if you didn't think it was scary then good for you, you can start watching PG-13 movies without your mom.MisterEgo
Hahaha oh dear.

Oh, dear indeed. I smell a true-believing fanboi who's never played SS2 or Undying.
im still confused on how AvP2 was considered a horror game. it just doesnt compute....Lach0121
The human campaign, much like the first movie, can definitely be viewed as belonging in the horror genre. It may not be a 'modern' horror movie with splashing gallons of gore and entrails at you...but in the sense that any moment something could pop out of air-ducts/shadows/ceiling/what-have-you and kill you before you can pull the trigger. Knowing that you're at the bottom of the food chain when you play the human campaign...now *that's* horrifying.

meh, it was a great game and had some shock moments. but to classify it as a horror game, no. and i played it with the expansion pack.I can't believe no one has yet mentioned Penumbra Black Plague. Hands down the most scary game I have ever played.HenriH-42
No, get overture first, then Black Plague. The plot is essential. Very underrated survival horror gem.
The best horror games for the PC are relatively old:
- Alien vs. Predator 2
- Clive Barker's Undying
- System Shock 2
However, for just plain creep-factor, you can't go wrong with American McGee's Alice.

The original AVP is much scarier but the second is a better game overall. Id pick up both if you can.

Yes of course you should play Overture first but I think Black Plague is a much better game, mostly because you have no weapons... Makes it a whole lot scarier.

I remember playing the demo. the environment turned dark and red, and aliens just started coming from places i couldnt see ripping their claws at me. scared the crap out of me... so i didnt buy XD.

I still want to play those. I played the demos, but not the full game. Very atmospheric in the demos.
Thief 1-3. biggest_loser
Agreed, although i've yet to play 1 and 2. Thief 3 is not your typical 'Boo! Blood everywhere, Zombies walking around, torn body pieces....blah blah'. It's more like 'What was that? It better be human. Is that someone moving in the shadows? Whose footsteps are those? They're definitely not mine. That sounds like somebody laughing.' It's little things like these that keeps you on the edge of your seats. It ain't a straight-faced horror but it sure is disturbing.
Penumbra, FEAR, Bioshock, and Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines creeped me out. Especially VT:M.
As for Alice, the story is pretty understandable as long as you have a basic knowledge of Lewis Carol's story.
Try Doom 3, that game scares the **** out of me.hooded1man
Right on. Doom3. and FEAR are my faves of scary games.
