This would be better suited for the PC Hardware forums, but to answer your question, SSD's (solid state).

I was wondering abou this myself. Would a Raptor increase the speed? I heard that SSD's have a limited write cycle, but that is gossip so I don't quite know.

disk data transfer rate is not the most important. i have a 5400 RPM "green" disk (rated at 5.9 too) and its fine for me. load times are not only data transfer but also memory allocation and some data processing, so dont expect load times to be proportional to your disk transfer rate. SSD are still not worth the price IMO.

Yeah you're far better off going with 2 raptors in raid, than with a SSD.

They have a limited write cycle which boils down to something like ten years of constant use. They're set to last longer than a platter-based hard drive, with the added bonus that they're not generally susceptible to sudden mechanical failures like regular HDs are.
