people feel fear so different ways its hard to say what is scariest.
and ofc after the game its not scary anymore, it may be scary when you play it.
but i would say condemned criminal origins , fear, silent hills, clive barkers undying (old game)
stalker, upcoming jericho (maybe) and so on..
fear is in you not in game :)
how about the PC port of Resident Evil 4? is it any good?
CAPCOM makes pretty crappy PC ports (Onimusha 3, Devil May Cry 3...), but if the gameplay and atmosphere is OK, graphics are not that important...
The whole atmosphere of RE4 was in the graphics... since Capcom destroyed the graphics, the game is not scary and even funny.
Silent Hill games are amazing and very scary. They have a deep storyline, so don't go skipping the videos or not reading the papers you find during the game!
I find forlornness to be the scariest element in a game. Even if it's rife with baddies, a game that truly makes you feel alone is the one that will make you turn on the lights, even before the one with the most chills or shocking moments. Examples: - Doom 1 & 2 - Diablo - Quake - The Dig - System Shock 2 - Half-Life - Clive Barker's Undying - Silent Hill series That's all my brain is coming up with at the moment. Anyone else have any other examples of games that highlight desolation/isolation?JN_Fenrir
Haha yeah doom 2 - when i was young and playing it i can remmeber being freaked out by the sounds of the spider masterminds walking around because you could hear them through most of the level and they were huge and kicked ass.
Stalker is a somewhat Scary game, some of those Mutants are Scary, Like in the labs and you hear a Snork comming from somewhere....Those Growls in the dark...."Shivers"handag
Snork is such a copyright violation. Whos gonna be scared of a snork? Itt's like saying theres a Urcle hidden under your stairs coming to kill you.

Clive Barker's Undying - scariest game of all times - it doesn't even need to use darkness to make you scared
I Agree with everybody that said silent hill I still have the occasional flash back that sacres the sh*t out of me.

i diddnt actually say i was scared of those snorks but, in the labs you hear there growls and no lights either, then they attack from nowhere, Then you go like:Sh**t!Sh**t! Sh**t! and open up all you've got on them lol...
i was reccomended Still Life and Painkiller, but from the reviews and comments, they're arent that scary...
System Shock 2 - yes it's old but it works on XP. Check out the user reviews here on gamespot - most of them say something about it being a horror masterpiece or the scariest game ever.djtim_3000
system shock 2? its was a very nice game, for the time it was released. as far as gameplay goes, its still very good, but scary? not any more. for the OP its just an opinion, maybe you'll play it and find it to be scary. none of us can really know your fear tolerance.
try AVP 1 and AVP 2 as a marine, damn when you see the blips on the motion tracker, and you know this are aliens, you start running like crazy looking all around, wasting magazine after magazine, trying to kill one alien.

Its set place in a mine and all you have is your flashlight to see through the darkness. Its a very scary game, its the first episode though and its short, but well worth a good scare.. hell the sounds from the cave will just make you want to turn the lights on.
Thief:3 Deadly Shadows.
Although most of it's not a scary game. The Shalebridge Cradle mission is well....
Lets say makes Silent Hill look like it should be for 3+
Defintely Stalker. I'm almost finished the game and the atmosphere is incredible. I've played almost every 'scary' game mentioned and this ranks near the top for me. The level of tension in some of the underground lab levels is incredible. Obviously, you have to play in the dark and 5.1 surround helps as the sounds in the game are key to being scared as well as the unique creatures.
Also, system shock 2 is one of my personal favorite all time classics. I'm playing it thru again before Bioshock arrives...
i was reccomended Still Life and Painkiller, but from the reviews and comments, they're arent that scary...

What!? Still Life is a mystery adventure game, it isn't scary at all. Painkiller is a game where you fight monsters, but it isn't scary.
Anyway, games aren't very scary, but the scariest is probably Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth or Condemned: Criminal Origins.
