I've been looking around Newegg.com and I'm not entirely certain of what all I need to build a PC as this would be my first time, but I have a budget of about $900 and I've only seen one PC that seems good for around that price and its a refurbished Gateway and like all PC companies I'm sure it's overpriced. So can anyone help me find some parts for under 900 bucks?

Preferably GeForce and Intel for GPU and CPU but it doesn't really matter it's just that Geforce number tend to go up and AMD is all over the place

Is a monitor, keyboard, mice, and/or OS included in that $900 budget? Are any parts of your older computer going to be salvaged, like DVD drives, hard drives, network cards?

DVD drives, keyboard, mouse, and monitor will be salvaged and an OS does need to be included in the budget

What resolution is the monitor you will be using? And, do you plan to keep that monitor for a while?

For a CPU are you willing to overclock?

yes = Q6600

no = E8400

under $900 hmmm for memory id get get ddr2 - 1066mhz in whatevers cheap (i recommend kingston and crucial ballistix). for cpu u could grab a decent Core 2 Duo eXtreme or Core 2 Duo for $110 - $150, for your graphics card id suggest one of the following links:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103050

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130360

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102804

now the remaining pieces you would need are a motherboard and power supply and if youve gone overboard on your CPU a fan to keep it cool.

recommended power supply: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817162017

recommended motherboard:  http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131299

ill check back on any decisions u have regarding the cpu and if hard drive is getting swapped or not.

core 2 Duo e8400

2gb ddr2 2066 Crucial Ballistix

Yea thats true but i figure the $130 under budget would let people give him some advice or for him to add his own stuff that he wants like lights, sound cards, and other misc. things.

Well, for graphics id get the GeForce 280 gtx , it is a 400$ card, but its better than 2 9800s and its about the same price. As for processor i couldnt really say, you could always get a quad core if u want to go extreme, then ram and motherboard and probally a 850 watt power supply ( more power for future improvements).

Not bad, i got a $350 compaq, got a new psu, put another gig of ram, and put in a 4850. It works like a charm and i took a jigsaw to the side of it so it has a nice window with some cold cathodes. I might put an x2 6400+ in there eventually but only when it gets under $100 :-p
