Not bad for a "modest" PC.
I won't be assembling an all-new PC until next year. But, I'll definitely watch thread like this. I also favor the $750-$1000 range.
Ask NailedGR and the troll train. They'll spec you a rig with atomic performance for less than $300
Build above looks good. You might consider the i5 3570k which is around the same price and a bit faster clock for clock, but is
running hotter than the 2500k,especially when going past a 4.5GHz overclock. Both are very capable chips though.
If budget allows, also consider a small SSD drive, to speed up load and access times considerably.
NeweggI guess I'm in the same predidcament too.. except i can range from about $1000-$1500. What website was did you get the parts from?

Is it recommended to wait till after win is released or does it matter?

Windows? Nope. Perhaps if it was the impending release of a new GPU or CPU, sure. But Windows? Nope. From my experience, every new release of Windows has caused some compatibility problems. Granted, it may only be a couple of old games like in my case. But, why take chances? Besides, Win 7 is a pretty solid OS.
Guys I am not AT ALL a PC guru, but have decided that I am going to skip the whole PS4/XBOX 720 thing and want to build a PC that can run games like Diablo 3, GW2, Black Ops 2, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3 and others at high settings. Here is the kicker though, my budget is around $750-1000. I dont need a M/KB and I plan on running this PC through my Samsung 51" 1080p TV or on my current PC monitor. What in your opinions would be minimum requirements as far as video cards, PSU's and processors go? ShoTTyMcNaDeSI think a core i3 would be fine for high settings. Ive seen there isnt a difference in most games from i5 to i3. I also think the $130 video card amd 7770 would be fine for high settings.
So for $642 you can buy a pc that will play games at high settings.http://pcpartpicker.com/p/c5Iy Wont be as future proof though as if you had a i5
Though I have the i5 more so that I wont bottleneck my future gpu upgrades.

IMO, in this day and age, a quad-core is standard. Go with the quad-core i5s, even if you have to wait a bit longer, and save a bit. An i3 is fine most of the time for high, but it won't be for much longer. Also, 7770 will play on medium-high at 1080p. I think go with 7850 if you want high all of the time.
windows 8 is a joke.. forget dat sh!t[QUOTE="Dswiss"]

Unless you want Xbox Live 2011 dashboard and Metro UI market stores, Windows 8 doesn't change PC gaming.
PS; I have downloaded and tested a 3D game that works on both ARM and X86 on Win8 PV. I guess, that most Android/iOS phone/tablet game ports would run fine on my existing tablet.

Fact of the matter is an i3 can play games at high settings. So if purely for wanting to play high settings on a budget then i3 will get the job done.
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR HEAD UP YOUR ASS
There's no point investing into a dual core when modern games can use quad cores giving you better performance....04dcarraherGuy said he wanted to play high settings. i3 is enough for that. No point spending more for that what you need.
Now if he said he wanted to future proof himself then a quad core would be the choice.

But why going to a dual core when you can get much better performance for a bit more or even go AMD so u can have more cores (inb4 intel's better for gaming, the difference is non existant at his resolution),and then you'll have a pc that not only will be better for gaming, but for general use and other more advanced software, if you are into that :) ) If you has the money for a quad core, then go for it And don't go for a 7700 on ur budget, you can get much better, like the second post, which is a fantastic rig (way better then crappy alienwares BTW just sayin)

But then that renders his original question pointless. Said he only wanted to play games at high settings. He asked what would be the minimum cpu to play games at high settings. The answer is an i3 cpu.Well duh if you had the money for a i5 it be better to buy one. But if you want to just play at high settins a i3 is enough.

 Slipknot just enjoy ur lil' gay alienware and let the big boys do the talkingHey now, I also get annoyed by his stupid alien ware posts, but that doesn't mean all his advice is garbage. I have a core i7 2700k as well as a celeron g530(cheapest Intel dual core cpu available) and both cpus perform great. Yes the i7 is better but their isn't a game out there the celeron dual core will do bad in. Anyone who owns one will tell you the same thing.
