So I bought a 37" Dynex at Best Buy right before New Years and it crapped out. Luckily Best Buy couldn't fix it and I exchanged it for a pretty amazing new set. It's a Samsung 56" DLP with 1080p picture, built-in surround sound (not as good as actual Dolby 5.1 of course), 3 HDMI ports, component hookups, VGA hookup, and even future 3D technology hookups. All that for around $1,200. It's listed as $1,399, but you can either price match it with Circuit City for $1,299 or print out a 10% coupon floating around online for extra discount (I shouldn't have to tell you which one will save you the most money. ;) ) If you're a smooth talker, you may be able to get both discounts put on.

As far as the TV goes, the picture is incredible and the sound is decent (with an entertainment system it's godly). It may not be a Sony, but for the price, you won't beat the screen size, amount of hookups, and quality of the set. So if you're looking to jump into HD gaming and films, check that deal out.

I agree with your assessment completely. If you don't need to hang your HDTV on a wall, why not go with a DLP? It is the most affordable HDTV technology out there.

BTW, Sony no longer makes DLP's. The only companies that make them are Samsung and Mitsubishi. I rate the Samsung DLP's to be slightly better than the Mitsubishi.

Who uses DLP anymore?!

Since you found the 10% coupon you should use the deal sites to buy a better HDTV.

LOL!

Try places like cheapassgamer.com or wow-coupon.com for printable coupons to lots of places.

And boxcutters, DLP may be a technology on the way out, but the picture quality was the same, the screen size was better, and it was cheaper than LCD or plasma, so I'm quite content with my purchase. If you're the type of person who wants to spend the extra $2,000-4,000 to feel like you own the newest and greatest in technology, more power to you.

I only spent around $800 only for a 42inch HDTV, and it's beautiful.

LCD's, and plasmas will save you hundreads of your power bill, and have better picture and features.

I use techbargains, or benbargins to find these good deals. Too bad people here spend full price on old stuff.

Sweet, our next HDTV will most likely be the 61'' LED DLP :D
