So, my question is - does this mean the game is still kickin? Last time I heard the game was underpopulated and I guess on the dying route but how is it doing really? I mean for me - F2P means either that the game is so bad it needs to be free for people to play it or that they were making so little money that they needed another plan. Either way - it meant that there was something fundamentally wrong with the game or system. From what I hear though - the game isnt bad and is actually good looking but doesnt a game like this needa good population to stay alive? And when it comes to content - doesnt it kind of suck because you have to pay to unlock regions and such? And what does buying the expansions and such do? Like if I bought the original game and the expansions - I get what...Turbine points? lol. Is it all pointless?

I haven't played for a few months... there was a decent population in prime time (hardly anyone on late at night).

The game is really good (I'd say almost as good as WoW) and the community is better than WoW's IMO- more mature at least.

If you subscribe you unlock all the areas except for any expansions that you don't have. Its worth subscribing if you find you enjoy the game.

The game is still fairly populated, I've been playing it since it went f2p and haven't encountered any moments where the game feels like a ghost town, well except late at night or early in the morning as stated. But the game has a steady flow of new blood thanks to f2p, it's what got me hooked.

I believe by the time you reach lvl 30 that you will either have to make an alt to accummilate enough Turbine Points to unlock a 30-50 lvl area or buy turbine points, or just subscribe. I'm not sure how long it will take to accumilate enough TP with an alt since I subbed when I realize the game was actually pretty fun. You can probably find a few guides on how to play the game without spending a penny on the interwebs.

Hmm. How much is the sub? $10/month? And is there any other way of playing? What do you use TP for? You said you could unlock areas with em - what else? Also - what happens when I buy the expansions. Im guessing they're also unlockable areas and that they arent necessarily provided as you play. Theres gonna be like 3 expansions when this new one comes out right. So do you get anything special when you buy em? I think Ill be giving the game a try but I think Id invest a little money if its worth it seeing as how I dont HAVE to get the sub but can still put money in here and there without being deprived of the core game like other F2P games that are really Pay to Win games.

The game still has a decent community... As far as being more mature...I really doubt that. The reason I quit playing was how fast the game went from friendly fellowship questing in the early parts to inane and repetitiveness grinding at lvl 65 , not to mention the lowering of the class of people playing. Just couldn't stand it... First MMO since Ultima Online...it's also my last. ( Maybe KOTOR though ) Bah...

It's the same as any other F2P MMO. At some point, the grind is so slow you really have to pay to get enjoyment out of it. You can start with F2P, but expect to go P2P if you like the game.

wtf? This game has a 'decent community.' What kind of defense or argument for the game is that? Every game has trolls, noobs, trashtalkers, etc. WoW has more people than LOTR, so your going to see more d-bags.

I haven't played for months. Mildly enjoyed it when I played it. Although I enjoy Rift much much better than LOTRO. Although it was a pretty good game and I might go back to it just to see Isengard.

Imo I believe the community is alive and kicking. I enjoy the hell out of this game. A lot more mature players than other games.

I just wish I had more time to play.

I had fun with it up until about level 35 or so. At that point, the majority of the quests are for group play. It's very difficult to find people who are willing to do the quest with you so you end up faffing about for hours on end, spamming the message board trying to get people to join you.

That was my problem as well. I played on Firefoot which was a decent sized server, but because I only had time to play late at night when only a spare number of people were present, it made questing quite frustrating. Of course this was before it became F2P so I'm hoping when I give it another chance it will be much more populated.

Maaaaaan, then its just like GW. Its pay once, play for free after that and then you have to deal with everything needing a group. I like doing things solo damn it. Especially because I dont have the TIME for group crap. I dont want to have to set up a time where I have to be on the game in order to succeed. I have an outside life. Thats why I liked WoW. I could interact with other players but there wasnt any commitment to a guild or raid or anything unless you wanted to. Sigh. I think Im backing out of playing this game once again. Maybe when I can afford it Ill do WoW or Rift or just get me a new RPG or GW2 when it comes out.

That is very true. It's one of the reasons why I love this game.
