So The Lord of the rings online is now 50% free? On the ads it talks about it being free to play so the only thing you have to do is buy the game and enjoy without paying monthly fees ever?? Like it is a regular game like…Zelda. Buy the game, turn it on, and enjoy without paying for something again? Also does anybody know if I can download it off of steam and get it cheaper then a hard copy? Hw much memory would that take?

Well it has become f2p as in you can play completely for free but you will be limited on what you can do. You will have to get a premium membership in order to get access to everything which costs money.

Dont let it fool you, f2p can mean a lot of different things. It can be fair and balanced - when premium content is there just to push you a bit further, speed up your leveling or give you some extra visual content and so on. It can be annoying and unbalanced - but still free - when someone can own you with his +20 UBER sword no matter how good you are It can be dirty - when its essentially f2p, but you NEED to pay to go on with the game. Take your pick.

Technically, no more monthly fees. They still have a subcription model, of course. You get some turbine points, which are used to buy services and quests in their in-game store, the ability to buy cheaper mounts than other people (and use them earlier) and the ability to instant travel rather than the slow-ass horse trotting. Beyond that, I'm not sure how late-game devolves into paid/not-paid, as I only made it to level 15 before I got bored.

What is the download size for this game? I might download the installer at work and bring it home on a usb stick, cause I have a monthly cap.

That I don't remember, and I can't check as I'm at work. All I remember is that you download one of those single-use seeding front-ends and download the file that way. It probably dumps the install files into a couple of directories.

That isn't huge, the size of everything is just changing, and it's mostlikely a small 2mb exe that will then download (and install) the game for you.

Ok well as long as it downloads the game entirely before installing it then it'll do for me. Patching probably won't take up much of my cap in comparison. Thanks for your help!

Ive subscribed, and ive tried free to play...

You can download the game and play it COMPLETLY free, but I ran into problems where I had to pay for certain quests...I was like...hmm instead of paying individually for 'quest packs', why not resubscribe and get everything? So yea...technically you can play the game, but you have to search for certain quests to move on and level up. Its a good tactic because I can see a ton of people trying it for free...being like, WOW this is cool, and then subscribing to it to get all the added benefits which are really worth it.
