I say WoW.

They just made a couple of new servers, so everyone is generaly low level (Cairne) and they are not allowing transfers until August. So that should give you lots of time to get to 70; by then, the second expansion will be out.

LOTRO is by all means quality, but I just found it boring after a while. Its got great support and an awesome franchise to play with, but the social aspect isnt as fun as WoW. With WoW, it seems like everyday people play it. With LOTRO, it seems like more diehard MMO'ers play it and they dont want to socialize...they just want to play

I'd have to disagree with the above poster. When I was playing LotRO I found the community really helpful while you were leveling, but then again at level cap not too many people wanted to do anything outside of their kinship. If you want good PvP I would say go with WoW but if you want better instances go with LotRO. I found the Great Barrows (first real instanced dungeon) to be better than any raid or instance in WoW.

I have to say to just wait til Age of Conan in May. But if not, definitely not LOTRO. That game sux. There is no PvP whatsoever. What are you gonna do for fun before you reach endgame? No CTF? No dueling? Screw that.

I really liked WoW. I really didn't like the WoW community. I switched over to LOTRO and I'm glad I did. The story is far better, the community is better and the game has everything I need to have great time.

WoW game = fun

WoW community in my opinion is a whole lot of annoying people, yeah there are some really cool people but you have to look hard to find them. Along that long journey of looking for quality people to play with you'll yell many expletives about the people who's only purpose seems to be annoying others. Sorry I have to say that as I don't mean to offend the WoW'ers that don't fit this popular character template, but it's what I honestly experienced the two times I've played that game for any amount of time.

LOTRO game = fun

LOTRO community = awesome.

My two cents.

The PvP is monster play, which a lot of people are now playing because it gives specialty items. No dueling? I've seen people duel many times. Also on side note they are adding to the PvP in the next free update I believe.

Age of Conan = un-Funcom... I distinctly remember Anarchy Online as being the most unbelievably bad mmo launch in history. I just can't believe in them until they prove themselves after that debacle.

WoW. If you look at LotRo they have basicaly taken WoW tried to improve on it and failed. Just look at the HuDs and you'll see what I mean.

My friend plays LotRo and anouther playes WoW, they make me laugh so much when the LotRO guy tries to say about new stuff it just sounds incredibly lame.

Neither are too great in my opinion, but let me say that WoW has ZERO exploration/secret aspect. Nothing is sacred in that game. The game is endless grind. It has every little damn thing down to a grind. People will say "Grinding? There's no grinding! Only quests!" Yet, these quests are "Grind X until you collect 20 of Y" or most of the time "Kill 50 of X". LotRO isn't much better, but it's a lot more interesting in my opinion.

That's MMOs for you though. If you dislike that sort of game an MMO isn't for you, which I recently found out when I quit WoW.

I have only played World of Warcraft and I'm interested in LotRO but after meeting the people here, don't trust anyone. You will either get biased blizzbots, noobs who will support WoW just because it's the most popular, or people who will spam MMOs suck. Just take my words into consideration and the score will be War of the rings - low / Warcraft - a lot / None - a lot. Do some careful research. I will take game advice from random people I met on the Internet never again.

:(

EDIT: Why can't I grammar?

Don't get me wrong, I've got a 70UD lock and used to hardcore raid so I apreciate the effort/teamwork and commitment that goes into end game. But when it comes down to it, the base of an MMO is grinding.

FunCom turned Anarchy Online into one of the best mmo's out there right now. I trust them to do a few things better for the AoC launch; I've already pre-ordered the collector's edition of the game.

yeah well considering they left the early players/payers out high and dry to basically beta test there game at $15.00 a month, only to finally fix it 4 to 6 months later and offer deals to new players. I'm still not ready to forgive them and have faith than can do anything but screw over the consumer. AO got really good after most people stopped playing it by the way. I personally did go back on someone elses account and tried it for a bit as well as tried it when it went free, it turned out good but still to little to late.

And when I say left them high and dry i'm not talking WoW launch sitting in queues waiting to play the game either. It was just amazingly unplayably horrible.

You do realize of course that WoW didn't invent that "hud", right? Blizzard basically stole it from (guess who?) Turbine. Take a look at some Asheron's Call 2 screenshots if you really want proof. So, in effect, Turbine stole from themselves not from Blizzard.

WoW, it has a great community, there's a new expansion coming soon.

Or if you're up for something more mature then I would wait for AoC till the 20th of May.

sorry, but you either didnt play the game or you are blind...there is duelling, and there is monster play...instead of CTF (i assume you mean capture the flag?) you capture forts...and you can either use your main character or create a monster.....

i find WoW is a more intense "you get back what you put in" kind of game, whereas Lotro is a more relaxed game, i preffered lotro just because im not the kind of person who can play the same game every day for numerous hours and for numerous months/years, therefore lotro was the better option for me because there isnt much pressure to always be doing the hardest raids and getting the best gear... that said i think it comes down to how much you plan on playing the game.

both games also have upcoming expansions, and they are adding new books(main story quest lines) all the time as well as new areas (there is yet another coming this week sometime)...from what i hear the main updates for WoW are just raids etc (correct me if im wrong) but i guess they are currently working on the second expansion so there is a heck of a lot more content, which isnt surprising since its a much older game than lotro. for that reason lotro is much more graphically superior if you are bothered by that kind of thing....

I'd go with WOW... I didn't like LOTRO, but the WOW community is bad and will probably eventually result in your quitting. If you got a few real life friends, play WOW... but I wouldn't go into WOW alone, cause it blows that way and there isnt a single person in that game you can trust or rely on.

I have played LOTRO and WOW both pretty long, and I have to side with LOTRO. The game just has that special something, that undeniable charm. The world just feels so alive. They really paid attention to detail. Also, the instances are some of the most stunning moments in PC gaming I've ever had. The storytelling, and ambiance of the world really come together to make you feel like you are on an epic quest.

The best thing about the PVP in the game is that you can jump right in by starting a monster character. No leveling required.

1. City of Heroes(Who cares?)

2. Lord of the Rings

3. World of Warcraft

4. World of Warcraft

5. You are going to find grind anywhere you go. LOTR and WOW have the same gameplay styles, so if you want less grind and more relaxation, get City of Heroes.. although that game isn't the best in my opinion.

6. World of Warcraft

LOTRO and WoW basically have the same gameplay. LOTRO has more of a story though, where WoW is like "Everyday life in Azeroth and Outlands"
