Ok , so whenever i boot up my PC and goes to desktop , my PSU is very quiet and is quiet most of the time.

But since i upgraded to a Geforce 9800GT Ecointelligence ( uses 30% less power than the regular ones), whenever i play games at high settings , the fan of the PSU gets really loud . The games i play run very stable with no crashes. And when i quit the game , the PSU goes back to normal after 5min.

Is this normal or is there a problem with my PSU ?

(BTW the psu is 300 watt with 19A, but i think it's allright because the Eco intelligence version uses less power and doesn't need any sort of pin connector)

what is the efficiency rating? Just because your PSU claims 300 watters doesn't mean your getting it. The best PSU are usually rated at 80 percent. What might be happening is you have enough power, but your PS is working its butt off to provide it, which means more heat, which means it needs more cooling, which means a faster fan.

Are you sure it's the PSU? It sounds to me like it's the graphics card because 1) the noise only started when you got the GPU 2) those cards have a feature which turn the fan and clock speeds low when there is no 3D to process and turn them high when you are running a game or graphics app. So, the fan will get louder when you are running the game because the blades are spinning faster and creating more friction causing the noise.

I went to the conclusion that the loudness was from the PSU because theres more air coming out of the PSU when running a game that when it is idle. Also while i was hearing the loud fan , i went to rivatuner and set my video card fan to 25% and i could still hear the loud fan. So iguess its the PSU. What do you think ?

You could try turning logging on in pc wizard or whatever you use, to monitor the fans. If you say it's the PSU then I guess it is the PSU. I'm not right in front of your PC so I can't put my ear to the case to see. I'm wondering what your other system specs are because 300 watts is a little on the low side.

MY pc specs are :

AMD X3 8450

3GB DDR2

One 500GB HDD

Windows 7

Geforce 9800 GT

(no overclocking in any of these)

Every game run very stable, no crash what so ever , only the fan is a problem. But if its not a threat , then i can ignore it as i use headphones

Your PSU is probably working to close its limit, providing more power but at the same time, giving higher temps explaining the louder/faster fan. Try switching to a 400W instead.

A lot of PSUs rev up their fans pretty loud during an increased power draw because it generates a lot of heat. My PSU does this and it's 750W. It just depends on how the manufacturer rigged the fan controller. If your system isn't crashing I wouldn't worry about it. If noise is an issue for you then look for a replacement.

it probably isn't the power supply but the gpu or p/s fan, they speed up when under heavy load. If you want quiet you can go and buy lots of after market cooling.

well fan speed going up on the psu shouldnt be a problem. Does it hum or make any strange sounds? If not I think its ok.

No actually , just the fan is loud , keeps getting louder and after some minutes of gaming , goes a bit quiet. And no crashes so far .... So do you think i'll be okay with this PSU ?

Yeah, if it's not crashing it should be fine.
