Anyone have any links to a guide comparing the lowest operating temp of video cards of this generation? Gonna be upgrading my 4650, which is a gigantic piece of crap(got it for 40 bucks), however I want to upgrade it to something that isn't going to make my room an oven.

Whats your budget? The Best bang for your buck would be the 5770 or GTX 460(it being the better card).

No budget, just going to get whatever operates at the lowest tempurature but has decent gaming capabilities.

A 5770 usually idles at 40C and jumps up to around 52-60 full load (when the fan is set to the standard 35% and auto controlled). My old card would idle at 70C while the fan was spinning at 90% at all time so there's a big improvement. It performs better too and require less power overall. Good times =) PS: Great gaming capabilities on a 5770 by the way. It gets even better (almost double the performance) if you decide to get another one and put em in crossfire.

GTX 460 has very low power consumption for its power in terms of graphics, thus keeping it at a very low temperature.

My GTX 460 idles in the high 20's or low 30's and loads under 60c (except on a very hot day when I saw it hit 62c). Ambient temperature in my room is generally around 20-30c

Unless you plan on water cooling, under 65C for GPU temp is pretty darn good for under load.

Unless you start looking at low-end chips, that's pretty damn good. Of course, my last two cards were hot bastards: a 9800GT and an X1900XT before that. 80c+ club baby.

I have a gigabyte 5830 (dual fans on it+heatsink) it plays Assassin's Creed 2 maxed out and stays around 45C, and when I max BFBC2 it never goes above 60C.

Honestly my Zotac GTX480 sits at cool 58C under full load. If you can give up 3 slots. The card is well worth a look.

I second this. My OC'ed 5830 never goes over 67C and idles at around 36C

You really should be looking at the TDP, not at the card's temperatures, because that's controlled by the heatsink and fan. You can have a phone that runs at 90c, but isn't going to make your room hot.
