Yeah, I've been waiting for this to upgrade. I can't wait till p55 comes out, but I hope it isn't too much above $300, otherwise I might just get an i5 motherboard. It's nice that it's coming out before Windows 7, which I got for $30 thanks to college =). Perfect timing for an upgrade.
Exactly, IF this turns out to be as good as it sounds you could buy 3 5870's and have literally a 3x increase in performance....this could usher in a whole new age of video games!so youre telling me i can CF my HD4830 and HD4890 and actually see a sizable increase and not have it equal 2x HD4830s?
HELL to the YES!!!

well hell yeah im more interested in the ability to CF or SLI different generations of cards verses only the same core. like i already have a hd4830 i was going to sell it. but this may be a cheaper way to get more
once DX 11 cards come out ill just get this and 4 Cheap mid end DX11 cards and i should get better performance than 1 5870 for half the price HECK YEAHHHH
EDIT: 1
This could also be benifical to say the GPU version of Folding at home and it could also be benifical to people who do lots of 3D renders on there PC. recently there has been good development of rendering on the GPU instead of the CPU. so this could be what solved the problems of render farms. 1 GTX 285 is comparible to atleast 6 Intel Core i7's

You can even have 2 5870's and get a GT300 when that comes out. You could use an ATI GPU and an Nvidia GPU in tandem. So you will be able to like run a game that runs great on an Nvidia GPU on ATI and get great performance and vice versa in the same machine.
You could switch over your CPU and RAM and if you don't have one that's compatible, you could sell your current ones and just upgrade those too :PYou still have to buy the motherboard though...
Plus the CPU and RAM

YOU though have to buy new CPU, RAM and MoBo... Your on LGA 775 still.
If someone doesn't have a i5 or i7 LGA 1156 they HAVE to but a new CPU, Mobo and RAM. If they are on LGA 1366, they may have to wait a while to get a Hydra board for them and or go to LGA 1156, having to buy a new CPU and MoBo.

Hence why I'm not upgrading until I see a new platform that really justifies the added expense. If you ask me, if you have to replace your mobo, CPU, and RAM all in one upgrade, just get an entirely new PC, because that's practically what you're doing anyway.Get a cheap 8600GT for PhysX and have ATi for rendering games?whats the point of using ati and nvidia?

I was just trying to point out that you could do it.
You have one primary card which i think DX will work from and ALL the other cards are just for giving raw power.how does a dx11 card with a dx9 card? Am I missing something? Or is it dx10+

the only thing is i doubt you can use DX9 and DX10/11 cards due to the significant change in architecture i cant see it working

Yea I'm pretty sure all the cards will have to be from same DX generation else you will be limited to the version of the lowest card, but I don't know for sure obviously. But that's fine anyway I can use my GTX 285, 8800 GT and 8800 GTS 640 for now then get a couple GT300's when they're released :D I'm so glad I held off from upgrading now.
I got no hopes for it. If ATI and Nvidia really want, they can just prevent them from doing this. Not buying into something that can be easily snuffed out in the blink of an eye.Human-after-all
Yes that's not out of the question, but I doubt it will happen. Why would Nvidia/AMD mind, a load of people who were never really interested in their crappy multi-gpu solutions (me included) all of a sudden want to buy loads of their graphics cards. I think they'd be glad, they'll have never sold so many cards. Also Intel was the main investor in this so if AMD/Nvidia ever did spit their dummies out then you could still use 4 Larabee's when they get released which would probably still give them a run for their money.
