I installed this but want to play without the disk and it won't let me. Anything I can do or is it made like this...I thought all new games could be played without the disk. Any help would be appreciated.

Only way to play without the disk is to download an illegal crack.

Some developers don't care if you play with the disk or not, while others do. It depends from game to game, from developer to developer.

A crack by itself isn't illegal , for example like this . You've bought the game but want to play without the cd? download a crack.

It's primarily the internet-activation SecuROM games that let you play without the DVD recently. Far Cry 2, Spore, etc.

Do you have to download a different patch for every game? Also where would be the best place to download it?..and is it illegal or no?

Yes, different patch for every game and game version. So, if an update comes out you have to put the original non-cracked exe back (always backup), run the update and get/wait for a no-cd crack for that. I don't think I can post a website on it without breaking some rule here. This was the clearest answer I could find on the legality.

Downloading a CD crack is de facto illegal, as you're modifying the software you are licensing. That's the key - you don't actually 'own' any of the games sitting on your shelf, you have a license to play them. That's what the L in EULA stands for. Unless it's spelled out in the EULA that you may crack the game (a few EULA's allow the user to make modifications to the software, to encourage game mods) you're breaking the law when you do it. That being said, not even an RIAA-style crackdown on game pirates will waste their time with pursuing someone cracking a game they purchased legitimately.
