this isn't a thread about whether or not you like macs or not.

so, regardless of how much you love your pc's, stay open minded.

Do you think that Macs, with their increasing popularity, will eventually take games much more seriously? Will Apple ever become more gamer-friendly? The games it already has now, are also on PC, they do run well, but do you think that Apple will ever have an exclusive "editors choice" quality game?

Again, this isn't about whether or not you like Macs. Gaming is such a major and constantly growing entertainment industry, and I don't think it will be long before Apple finally tries to get in on it.

Apple was on gaming years back but ended up losing most of it's developers after their market share plummeted. Hell, Bungie did games specific to the Mac OS. The only problem I see though is that yes, they are increasing popularity but they don't have the market share to drag the developers away from DX and go with OpenGL. Now I don't prefer Macs but it would be interesting if it became a gaming force as well.

In my opinion though, Mac needs to open up their hardware to allow DIY guys to build a machine and be able to install the operating system. As soon as that is done, who knows they may sky rocket their market share and go the path of Microsoft/gaming.

While Mac gaming is becoming more polular, there is only iD software that truely supports it. I read about EA converting their back catalogue of games for Mac but heard nothing more about it.

To be honest I don't think there is much market for Mac gaming since gamers either play consoles or a PC, most Macs are used in artistic business roles (web design or photography) or by students that just need something for their studies. I guess the students would game if it was available but there isn't really a big pull for developers to go out of their way to support the Mac.

Have fun

Not happening any time soon. Why? Inability to upgrade and/or build yourself. Big-name game developers aren't going to develop new, cutting-edge games for a system that people can't upgrade to play those games. Imagine trying to keep up with current computer games without being able to upgrade your system. You'd have to buy a completely new rig every 2 years, tops. And since you can't build a Mac yourself, you can't get around paying the rediculous manufacterer mark-up. Macs do what they do, and they do THAT well. But, by a PC gamer's standards (assuming this was a world where you could game on Macs), they're only cheap because they suck.
