I am studying Graphic design at college and I am looking to do a degree course in the same subject in 09. If i were to get a mac i would get the top imac model in the summer of 09. Which is better for all the adobe programs and stuff?

Well, im glad you asked. Most people simply assume a mac is better for graphic design... Yet i can guarantee you 90% of them will never be able to tell you why exactly.

The differences between the PC version and Mac version are very few. You will never, ever, ever come across any issue where the Mac or PC version will be better in your entire lifetime as a student.

The Mac version of many of the abode programs offer superior color management and color consistancey on a well calibrated system. It also makes color profiling and calibration easier due to Mac's Colorsync. You will probably never profile any device as a student. Heck most of the computers you will be using wont be color managed either.

In other words, you will most likely never see the benefits of either system until you are out there in the working world - and sadly, maybe not even then.

I'd base your purchasing decison of a Mac or Windows on what other types of programs you'd like to run on it and whether they are Mac or Windows compatible.

Ask the college which platform they use - if it's mainly Apple, get the iMac. If most are Windows users, get a PC. All the differences between the two aren't large enough to warrant choosing one over the other if your professor is using something else.

Considering photoshop is pretty much the same on both OSs, you should choose based on what else you might do with this comp. If you intend on doing more than just graphic design (i.e. programming, gaming, etc...) then get a PC. If you just want a simple to use OS for graphic design, then get a mac.

The new MacBook Pro's all have that super-glossy screen (made from glass) that pretty much doubles up as a mirror since you can see your reflection on the screen too easily (I saw the review on Engadget, you can the clear reflection of the guy taking a photo of it easily). Glossy screens are BAD for graphic design because you need to have true color contrast, not glossy.

Tell me about thsoe useless glossy screens, they are so bad for using, just look nice when they are off. why wont laptop makers take the non gloss screen that are everywhere in normal monitors? its fine to make the casing gloss but get ride of those stupied glossy screens that need darkness to be fully useable. non gloss screens can take so much more light on them before they come unusable.

gloss makes everything pretend to look good when in reality they are poor quality screens under a big mask, thier viewing anges are a god dam joke, slightly off centre and can't see a thing.

if I were you I'd try and find a laptop with a non gloss screen which will be hard. Do you need a laptop? if not get a nice 22" non glossy monitor. as for the imac they have horrible glossy screens which is made worse by the fact they aren't just gloss screen but have a nice big gap between the screen and the glossy plastic protecting the screen which gives terrible viewing angles.

I would guess those programs are pretty much the same on both platforms :?
