Hey fellas.

OK I know this is completely irelevant to these forums but ,say you want some of the features, programs in Mac OS-X 10.5 Leopard, but you don't want to buy a mac to get it, is there a way to run it on a PC. I know you shouldn't do this and the guys at Apple of course say that it doesn't work but, how come Microsoft give Apple users the option to run Windows on a mac yet Apple can't do the same for thier OS. I mean there would still be plenty of reasons to buy a mac even if the OS was Runnable on a PC ,namely superior processing power for Graphics work etc. And if you think about it Apple would still be making a profit from selling the OS to you, so why can't you use OS-X on a PC, this would mean the hardware in your PC ,e.g. sound cards etc could be utilised with OS-X's powerful programs like Garageband. Anyone else feel like Apple is getting it all and we're getting taken for a ride? I mean most of the hardware in new Macs is the same as any modern PC albet the CPU is 2 Quad-Core Intel Xenons in the top-end model, the GPU etc are all pilffered from the PC Industry

Simply put Apple wants to control all your entire computing destiny..Microsoft can only control the software side, Mac makes things even more proprietary on both hardware and software (even if much of it is BSD and Linux-based).

If you want to get Mac on PC, get Linux or BSD, you get a good number of the benefits without the absurd markups and lockin Apple introduces.

I really don't know why it should be ,I mean if Microsoft are good enough to let Mac users run Windows then can't Apple give the mass market(and I mean come on at least 60-70% of that is dominated by PC's) a taste of thier OS. Seriously it wouldn't stop people buying a mac, heck it can sell based solely on it's asthetics (looks) and exclusive features like the ability to add Apple TV etc. I believe this is just Apple's way of locking you into thier wee club. Oh hey, didn't Apple sue Microsoft back in the 80's for alegedly copying the look and feel of one of thier OS's. Correct me if I'm wrong. Now I ain't an MS fan and I'm not one to praise them very often(who is) but to give customers of your direct rival your OS is kudos in my book, therefor I think Apple is taking the consumer for a ride making them buy a mac just to obtain the benefit of thier OS. Microsoft doesn't do that when you buy a Pc does it?

Truth be told, I'm running Mac OS 10.4.9 on my pc right now. It's fairly simple to do since apple already use intel based components for all of their newer desktops and laptops. Leopard is still new so may not be stable on PC.

Another thing, don't expect Hackintosh (Mac on PC) run better than a native MAC regardless how powerful your graphic card is. Apple simply don't have the driver to utilize all the processing power of high end graphic card.

In terms of marketing strategies, MS is no better than Apple. Microsoft is essentially a software company whereas Apple is mostly a hardware company. MS is quite happy at where it is right now in terms of window being the dominating OS in the market. Apple, on the other hand, is making money by selling their computers, not their OS. Mac OS is fairly cheap at $129 per copy. They make money by selling computer system, not OS. Therefore, they had to make the OS proprietary.

Its funny that it's both illegal and that Apple does not open it up. Apple should be selling their cheesy OS to everyone because their hardware is now using the same CPUs (and GPUs) as PCs. There is absolutely no reason for Apple to still "make" (box)proprietary hardware.

The funny thing is if Apple did offer their ghey new OS for all Intel and AMD based computers like they easily could only about 2% of the world would want it! LOL

If its so great whey don't they stop trying to link it to their overpriced hardware? And why are there no major games / software releases coming out just for Mac? When is the last time you heard Adobe announce some major ability for Photoshop or Illustrator etc that was not also available in the PC version? What exactly is the advantage of having a Mac besides the fact that some weird people like the GUI more? Can you name any software/ability that can ONLY be done on a Mac? Especially now that they are running on the very same software as the PC?

Of course not!

And further more let's just look at the hardware picture. Remember how Apple could always claim its Motorola CPUs were better than Intel/AMD even though there was no proof? And then remember how Apple worked a deal with Intel to be the first out with the C2D when they decided to switch? They had the first desktops and laptops with C2D before you could get them from Dell, IBM etc for a few months.

Wow that was really neat. Well guess what that's over and that happened when nothing could even utilize the advantages of C2D and of course Mac had no games that even came close to using it!

So what now? They were not first to get C2Q, they are not first to get anything. Why would you even want a 8800GTX on a Mac??? What the hell are you even going to use it for? Is Leopard Dx10? If so why? What is going to use it?

The PC hardware that Mac now uses is just passing it up. Why do you need a C2Q or 8800GTX on a Mac? The PC hardware industry is growing like crazy because of games. But the Mac has no games. How much power do you need to look at stupid OS based desktop clocks, type letters, and browse the internet? And do you know of any Adobe product that need an 8800GTX?
