Mafia 2 worth it if I haven't played original?

I'm seeing it on sale on direct 2 drive and I'm wondering if the game is worth it if I haven't played the original and don't know the current story/characters.

Also, the game was really short, there was no side missions and at times the story was really confusing cause it was not tied to Mafia one that well. However that is just my opionion :P

If you buy that game I'm not sending you a Xmas card this year! Its a terrible driving simulation! Too much driving, not enough action, underdeveloped mechanics! You will get nothing out of the story either because its so convoluted and bloated with characters like Tommy the Tongue, and Siddy the Squid, who is actually the nephew of your wife's half-brothers uncle.

Seriously, why buy this when you can get GTA4 and the expansions pretty cheap?

Also, I believe Wonton is referring to none other than the actor Bela Legosi, when he says BL, because he's a huge gamer.

I liked it a lot. Its a fun game but its short so i would only get it since its on sale
