No unless you have a GTX 480 or 2. PhysX adds nothing really to an average game.

You obviously have not played B:AA, Cryostasis, or this game for that matter.

PhysX is a gimmick. The effects are nothing special and are only there in the first place to sway people into buying Nvidia's GPU's.

Yeah physx in mafia 2 was nothing more than fake identical pieces jumping out of every surface you shoot and fall down to the ground.

People don't need to be tricked to get Nvidia, ATI sends them this way with pleasure and this comment really shows how much you actually know about Physx games.

People with ATI, or people that are cool and heard from other cool people that Physx is nothing special, say what you want but Physx makes games superb, it creates an atmosphere way above the standard experience. If you want to complain about ATI not getting any then find other things to do since ATI waited half an year to buy Ageia after announcing that they made some deals and they'll buy them; Nvidia saw that they are lazy and instead they bought them.

It's amazing how people react to 3D and Physx when they have an ATI card, sometimes they go as far as foreseeing the tragic end of gaming itself because they don't have access to these technologies.

Would a GT 240 dedicated for PhysX do the job?

The same can be said about Nvidia gamers and Physx. They tend to overrate it a tad.

Maybe, but games with Physx on are far more enjoyable than those games without, Mirror's Edge, Sacred 2, Mafia 2 and especially Batman AA. Sure you can say "yeah don't care, it's enjoyable enough without Physx", but the atmosphere, the immersion it creates, is far above the standard experience.

I noticed that the flags in Mirror's Edge wave around, and you can shoot holes through them. But I didn't find the game anymore enjoyable than it already was.

Again, not enough games support it to make it worth it. I'll choose power over a feature for now.

Are you sure you aren't overrating Physx a bit? It sure looks nice, but it's still the same game, it doesn't change that much

Exactly. Its about as useful as Nvidia's 3D Vision.

You don't need an nvidia card anyways, just a good processor.

If nvidia was smart, they'd licence the tech out to ati, and then developers could actually implement it into gameplay instead of just using it as some added cosmetics.

A good processor? My FPS in Mafia 2 would drop by half jacking physx to medium on a 965 with a 6870. Sloppy Nvidia gimmick.

No issues with PhysX here. Might add I'm using an i7 and 2 SLI'd 480s.

Sounds poorly implemented. I don't notice any difference with it on in metro.

I think that's 2Ks fault, not Nvidia. Other games have done it well.

No, I find it hard to imagine that shiny water and extra particles add a whole new atmosphere to a game. I've seen the difference, but I must be completely missing something, I guess.

Wow, this got way off-topic. All I asked was if Mafia II runs better on the retail version than in the demo, not whether PhysX was useless or not. And then I asked if a GT 240 would work fine as a dedicated PhysX card but you guys kept arguing -_- .

So all I'm going to say is that I got myself a copy of the game for 20 bucks last night so I'll see what happens.

And again, is it really hard to answer a question without starting an off-topic discussion?
